Ah, the dilution factor!

Last night was the grand finale.  We were woken up at 4:30 am by a little dog blasting out of both ends.  It was horrific!

Today the hubby drove up north and got a box of frozen raw food.  The pet shop owner was so happy to see him back!

Too bad we couldn't swing it since I suspect he has a mild allergy to something in the raw food.  His eye discharge did clear up - but what a price we paid!  We are seeing the vet next week and I'll ask about a pancreatic condition.  We got onto the raw in the first place due to digestive problems with commercial cooked food, but I was never sure what the problem was, I guess.

He was diagnosed with Cushings...I'll consider homemade raw if the allergy symptoms come back.  At least for now, his digestion is better back on the raw and I know it's balanced.

POOR POCO!!!!  I hope his raw food settles his poor digestive system back down quickly.  What was in the home-cooked you were making for him, any ideas of what could be causing the trouble?

oh no!!!  He was doing OK for a while there on your home cooking - or so we thought... if his GI settles back down on the raw, then it has to be raw.  Will Poco have a blood test too next week?  You must be beside yourself, Klondike with wondering what wet wrong... Did you use the enzymes at all?  Was the diarrhea pale yellow or whitish?  Could Poco have picked up a belly-bug? Vomiting and diarrhea at once is suggestive of that.  How is the little presidential now?  Oh I hope he is OK. Don't let him get dehydrated.

Keep us posted, K? and give Poco a BIG kiss on the nose form me  Kiss.  Poor dahling!

Thanks for everyone's concerns and prayers.

We used the Optagest and will probably keep using that with the raw food.  It seemed to help.  But he could only handle straight cooked lamb.  I couldn't get any other nutrients into him, not even calcium or a multi with calcium.

He could always eat a few beans or some pumpkin with his raw food, but that messed him up with the cooked food.  He was super-sensitive.  Sometimes the diarhea was pale and liquid or mucousy.  (I should have put this in the sick pet area, rather than homecooking.  Tongue)

But he is OK now and hopefully will make it thru the night.  He held down a tablespoon of white rice and chicken since the afternoon.

Oh, that's good to hear... chicken and rice is the standard gut-settler  Cheesy --- so, looks like Poco can handle a little chicken?  A lot less fat than lamb.

Poor Poco!  (And poor you, too.  Not a good thing to wake up to in the middle of the night!)  I do wonder if it is the fat in the lamb.  I'm glad he was able to hold down a little chicken and rice.  Sending prayers for his recovery, and that you will be able to find something that works for him.

It does seem to go that way with feeding pets sometimes.  You solve one problem, only to encounter another.

Klondike,  I hope poor Poco is feeling better very quickly!  Those middle of the night explosions are awful especially when you dont have your wits about you being half asleep.  Please keep us posted, Poco is in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks, all, for your concern for Poco.  He made it through the night with no trouble and none today.  I heard a little stomach gurgling, but that was common with the raw.

The gurgling and possible allergy is why I got serious about homecooking.  It sure did clear up the eye discharge and as long as he just got boiled lamb and no veggies, grains or vitamins with calcium, (he could take his Vetri-disc, Cardio and Proneurozone), he was fine and had good energy.

Fat is an issue, since when I added lamb broth, he got sick even though I skimmed it.  He has problems with salmon, too, in meal quantities.

I thought he was allergic to chicken, but he didn't itch from the little bit we gave him yesterday.  I'd be really happy if he could have that back in his diet!

We'll just regroup for now.  I'll ask the vet next week about him being a candidate for the Rx pancreatic enzymes discussed in MarySmith's thread.  The Optagest, (plant enzymes and FOS), did help, but maybe he would need something more powerful for a cooked diet.

Poor Poco!!!!!  His tummock was feeling oookie!  I hope you find a food for him that doesn't upset his tummie.  Chicken and rice is always good for upset tums.  Glad he could hold it down.  Keep us updated on him.  We need him fit and strong for the campaign trail!
