Not sure if this belongs here or in another area, but everyone here deserves kudos for what they've done thus far.  It's been a struggle and the struggle will no doubt continue; may everyone stay strong, stay focused, stay impassioned.

The following is something that reignites my passion for rescue, when the pain and suffering I see gets me down and makes me think of throwing in the towel.  But it does apply here, too.  So, for anyone who is feeling weary from this new battle we all are facing, may it strengthen your resolve:

Why Rescue?
[/u]

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter - the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness, and betrayal.

And I was angry.

"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"

God was silent for a moment, and then spoke softly, "I have done something," was the reply.

  "I created you."

Everyone who has lost a pet due to the recall, please consider adopting a shelter pet.

Thanks for this, some 5,000 pets being adopted by grieving, loving and passionate people is a great idea. When my hero dog had to be put down April 9, 2007, being disabled and very dependent on his companionship. Basking in the sun, going for walks, playing ball, if I was not on these events daily, he would push me to them. Put his "dog head" in your face until you were laughing and doing those things he knew where so vital to living.
My family was slightly worried about me. My dog and I were a 24/7 team for just over 5 years. I adopted him, 3 days prior to his last day, he needed the rescue as bad as I did.
My Mom instisted lunch and S.P.C.A. telling me that I would be going home with a companion. Naw.....I had saw a few dogs online of the same bred which is a bred I adore, Basenji. Not in a hurry, yes I WAS going to adopt, but......
Towards the end of my walk through the S.P.C.A a little dog perks up these huge ears and my heart was swipe away in that moment. "You aren't supposed to be here." I tell her, she melted to the kennel door, that soft love me, love me, love me look in her eyes. It was one of the dogs I had seen online at a non kill shelter. Her foster family had taken her to the S.P.C.A without telling the shelter. I later found out.
She had to be spayed, so she couldn't come home until the next day.
I am so glad others where watching out for me. It hurts daily still that my buddy was ripped away from me. I feel that when my dog got to heaven he told God, "My Mom can't be alone!" That day he was walking with both this little girl dog and I. She had just been put up for adoption an hour before I got there.
She is learning how her new life is going to be. I get the same odd looks from her as when I first brought him home. As though she is going to wake up from the best dog dream she ever had any minute.
My heart goes out for all of you who have lost their pets also due to this never ending pet food recall. We all grieve differently on different time lines. When you are ready or if someone pushes you, let them push you to a pet that needs your companionship as badly as you need thier companionship.
