Which TV channels are reporting about this petfood disaster?  Evidently I keep missing most of them.  I DID see the CNN report yesterday, but that is all I have seen.  Someone said it was discussed on Fox news yesterday.  My friend said that between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.  she saw an extensive news program on the unbelievable conditions of farming and production in China. The toxic, filthy, sewage laden water the crops are irrigated with etc. etc.   She said it was lengthy, but can't remember what channel it was, thought it might be CBS, it was the first news of the morning.  She couldn't sleep because she's vegetarian, and all her soy products have wheat gluten in them etc.etc.

If anyone could tell me who has been reporting on this situation on TV, I would appreciate it. I am going to google and see what I can find.  That ONE CNN broadcast is NOT ENOUGH to reach everyone.  Thanks for anyone who has info.

There was a quick mention of it on ABC's news this morning. Unfortunately, I was not alert enough to process all the information, but hopefully you can see it on their website after Good Morning America finishes its west coast broadcasts.

hello all
I have sent out my emails. An idea is to keep sending ur emails everyday- after all, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. write out ur emails and just keep sending the same ones everyday- cut and paste the message and keep sending them off. send a link to the fda website that has now been put on the news section of itchmo  and also send a link to itchmo website. dont forget to list ur pets names, as we have to speak for our pets. I am going to do this until I see on this forum or the itchmo website that the correct story is finally being broadcast. its the least I can do for all of us who have been worried, heartbroken or have lost pets or whose pets are sick bc of the laziness and disconcern of the food companies and those in government. I am also going to make a sign to put in my car window- I'll make it myself and attach it with scotch tape.

KING5, the NBC affiliate in Seattle, did a story on the 5pm news this evening.
FDA under fire amid reports of tainted food
May 1st, 2007The investigation into tainted pet food blamed for killing animals has evolved into a serious look at our entire food safety system, and experts say there is a serious problem. KING 5's Gary Chittim reports.

There is a video link to the story as well.

On CNN this morning, anchor Suzanne (??) reported on the aspect that melamine was found in the feed that chickens ate, NOT that the chickens were sold to stores and that people already ate it.

In a later broadcast,, Dr. Sanjay Gupta gave more details, saying that we consumed the chicken, that the FDA was not releasing the names of stores that sold the contaminated meat, repeated the FDA line that there was minimal harm to humans with the "dilution theory" (Yup!  We keep hearing this to pacify us.) because we eat a wide variety of foods and also much of the melamine was excreted through the kidneys.

Sanjay also just mentioned the melamine, which supposedly is relatively harmless in small quantities.  No mention by Dr. Gupta of CYANURIC ACID.  Sounds too scary to say, doesn't it?

Sanja might need some emails asking for his off-air beliefs, based on what his medical training and chemistry classes taught him about the synergistic effects of compounds, namely the potential of the melamine-cyanuric acid compound.  To me, just watching his facial expressions while he spoke the lines, I wonder if he really believed what he had to say, especially with medical colleagues viewing.

One thing we should DO IN OUR POSTS, is keep reminding people that MELAMINE IS NOT THE ONLY COMPOUND FOUND -- CYANURIC ACID IS ALSO THERE.  Scientists performed lab tests combining the melamine and cyanuric acid with cat urine and found that CRYSTAL developed within a short period of time.

The FDA, of course, would like to just keep repeating plain melamine, which from day one of the spin, was not toxic or relatively harmless.  If melamine is not harmless, then another compound killed the pets.

I think it is our job to keep reminding people of the CYANURIC ACID, which IN COMBINATION with the MELAMINE, BLOCKED KIDNEY FUNCTION, which led to the death and sickness of the pets.  In all of my future posts, I'm going to try to remember to write melamine & cyanuric acid.

Whether this is a by-product of melamine (assumed to be a part of melamine's breakdown), I think a distinction needs to be made.  It's the combination of the two that formed the exact crystals (70% cyanuric acide & 30% melamine) in urine & kidney tissue dissections.  And the crystals are practically insoluble.  This has been scientifically proven, so let's use it.

I was not yelling here, (just angered at the spin) just wanting to emphasize that the FDA & media are downplaying the issue again.  Thank you for your understanding of the caps.  This "lessening the blow" spin just irks me.  The public is being lulled into a false sense of security, in my mind.

I think I'll email Sanjay.

Buy local.  Buy organic.
If you ate today, thank a farmer, hopefully a small, local farmer.

Remember the thousands & thousands of pets that died to give US a wake-up call about the safety of ALL food and products.

Hi-

I know this is only a local site, but my story was shown twice (once when the recall first broke) and one just last week with the expanded recall.  Here is the link:

All 5 are still ill, twice over.  But aren't they are photogenic! Grin
My heart goes out to all of you.  This needs to be national news DAILY to get the word out there.  Too many people still don't know the scope of this.

Janine,

You are sitting right in the same place I am - multiple cats, all sick initially and then recovering.  Then a second whammy with more exposure to the poison and another recall.  More sickness, more tears.  And no hope that the end is in sight.  I wonder how much their little bodies can stand...

I will tell you, what makes every difference in how they feel is the IV therapy.  Request that your vet read the APSCA's guidelines and follow them to the letter.

Praying for you and your critters.

Late last night in Craig Ferguson (love him!) he did a skit making fun of Pres. Bush and the Queen of England having dinner together.  The Queen takes a bite of food and says, "this tastes like plastic."  Bush gets defensive and says, 'there's no plastic in that.'  The Queen says, "it tastes like plastic."

I'll take any little bit of publicity we can get.  A subtle reference to the melamine, no doubt.

Anyone have a direct line to Jay Leno to get him to do a few jokes on mela-chicken, mela-fish, mela-pork?

Sharon,

Thank you.  I will be thinking of you and your furry babies as well.  I am weak right now with fear and worry, I check this site now before each and every meal I give them, just to be sure.  I am on my way back to the emergency with 2 tonight, not eating again and vomit.  I hope this ends soon.  I can't watch them go through this torture anymore.
