This is really good. Terrible statistics for PETA.

Peta is setting the standard for this in nanny states from coats to coast. High kill numbers are making a case for MSN.

"Challenging county statistics on the number of animals sheltered and destroyed at their facility off Belvedere Road west of West Palm Beach, Kanjian accused county leaders of "padding numbers to make it seem like (pet overpopulation) is a bigger problem than what it is."

Kay Lynette Roca, director of Safe Harbor, an animal care facility near Jupiter, blasted Kanjian for his assertions, and urged commissioners to finalize their approval of the ordinance.

"Pet overpopulation is not a myth," she said. "Spay and neuter is the root of all the problems. The issue here is that if you end the overpopulation problem, you've addressed all the other issues (of animal care and control). You've addressed the other issues like animals hit by cars, nuisance cases, cruelty cases."

Sounds like Kay Lynette Roca has read the book???
True, pet extinction would end the problems of animal control and "care".

Thanks for posting this, Trudy. Nathan Winograd's book "Redemption" is at the top of my reading list.

POISONED FOOD: First, dead pets. Now, babies.

I never realized their kill numbers were that high!  Yikes.

Can't PETA members get the pets on local TV stations for adoption?  If these figures are correct, it seems as though a 5 year old putting up fliers on telephone poles could do a better job at getting animals adopted.

Many local news stations have a one-minute pet segment where pets for adoption are offered.  Those with a hard-luck story seem to be wanted the most and receive the most adoption offers -- whether they're missing an eye, leg, have damage to their necks from collars that are too small!  I am horrified.  PETA can stop sending me their requests for money immediately!!

What is going on with PETA??  I knew they were extreme in getting some messages out, but the extremely low adoption rate is too much to take!

I'm horrified!

Buy local.  Buy organic.
If you ate today, thank a farmer, hopefully a small, local farmer.

Remember the thousands & thousands of pets that died to give US a wake-up call about the safety of ALL food.

I think PETA is less about helping individual animals & more about creating sensationaliism & bringing in the big bucks.  It would take a lot of time & money to bother to house & find homes for pets.  Much easier to euthanize them right after they get them into the 'rescue' van.

Dogs & cats seem to be very low on their list of animals to help in general--some of their statements I've read in the past seemed to be very against people keeping dogs & cats because of the need for meat in their diets.  Fewer dogs & cats in the world mean fewer farm animals have to die I guess.  Shows how much they know about the pet food industry.

What PETA said at the trial was that were NOT an animal shelter. They do not hold animals. do you believe that? No one seems to know or they wouldn't be getting any money.

I agree that if there really is a 97% euthanasia rate, then shelter is not the correct term.  It is more of a service.  It is much better than a cruel death or the gas chambers or heart shots some pounds still use.  I wonder why so many animals are surrendered?  Seems like we need a pet support system akin the the child support system so people can't dump animals if they can afford to support them.

Yes, they said that too. when We all know most of the pets they killed here were very adoptable. So cute and so wonderful. what did they care? And You know, most if not all had had all their shots , some were fixed, and so they just kill them.

well at least Dr. K said that in regards to dying humans.  unlike those poor adoptable pets people turned over to PETA, after being told they would quickly find 'great homes for them'.  Dead & thrown in the dumpster that is.

I wonder if any of the celebrities they use in their advertisements have any idea about these percentages!
