I wrote to Cooper Anderson. No word back yet. Asking him to refocus on the ever growing recall, brief info. Told him about the post cards and stuffed animals, asked if we could use him and his studio. At Kinkos three other people had been in today, making post cards, that was this morning. E. Hamilton we will work it all out, just three right here in my little town within hours, told the service man our stories too. So something is happening. Just getting them sent out on time and where to send them.

Marilyn,

If Denise Dory or Jack Hannah don't respond, how about Bob Barker?

As for a media contact, how about a journalist Matthew Scully?

Although a conservative [edited] and a former speech writer to [edited], he's known for his stand against animal abuse. I've heard about his book, "The Dominion" but haven't read it yet. I'm not sure what he's up to these days. His contact info is on his website.

What about USA Today as a place to send. They have had a couple of reporters doing stories on this even during the media slow down.

Stories by: Julie Schmit    http://www.usatoday.com/community/tags/reporter.aspx?id=335

Stories by: Elizabeth Weise  http://www.usatoday.com/community/tags/reporter.aspx?id=192

I would try for several media contacts. Print, Television, Radio, etc to cover all bases. and someone at AP (sorry is already on the list!) Perhaps some of the main blogs like Daliy Kos and Huffington?

I'm new here and thankfully I haven't lost any members of my furry family.  I want to help.

First, my heart goes out to each of you.  Thank you for taking your terrible situation and making sure your babies didn't die in vain.

One suggestion is to add the major vet medical associations to your main list of mailings.

If you guys want help from someone who has no cards to mail, please let me know what I can do.   Search for addresses and post?

Good try Marilyn. Nice letter she wrote you. She'll be thinking all night about it. Too graphic to show our pets in post card form, it's the impact we wanted, hit em' in their hearts. She won't be the only one saying such. Yet last week didn't the media get scolded for airing the madman at VT, all day. Outragous, I was screaming what insanity that was to see on air. Yet our pets and a line is drawn in the sand. Hmmm....I still haven't heard back from Cooper Anderson, has anyone else wrote to him. Maybe if he got several e-mails he would hear our whistle blowing. The ladies of "The View"? Any of the late night guys? Hannity and Cohmes? Mr. Rivera?

I just posted a link at the petfoodlist forums to our thread here.
They've started a thread called Let's Get the Media On This.  I think it would help strengthen our voice if both groups worked together.

Marilyn - thanks for contacting Elizabeth Williamson at the Washington Post.
At least she did reply.  Hearing back is better than being ingnored & I greatly appreciate your trying.
Maybe if she heard from more of us she'd realize just how angry & upset all of us are?

I heard there would be congressional hearings this morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. EST.  Does anyone know how I can view these hearings? I've had C-SPAN 1 & 2 on all morning, but there's not a thing on this at all!  CNN did mention they were "going on," but...?  Is there a way to see or hear this on the internet today?

Yes.  Frieda, go to the Pet Connection's liveblogging of the event.  Be sure and read the comments as well.
It's quite educational.  You can read all about it at this link.

I had a thought. Huh Maybe you could add a Judge or a lawyer to your list. Maybe they could try to make some kind of semi-official count if you use certified mail and include the Vet info. Does anyone know any Judges or Lawyers you could ask about this?

I'm at work and can't take time to do this research for addresses but I just thought of something REALLY important.  I went to Mississippi and helped out right after Katrina struck.

Several celebrities were involved but the biggest name in the immediate aftermath was Oprah.   Along with Anderson Cooper of CNN she was the most vocal in speaking for the animals in crisis.

HERE IT IS

My Pet Counts! Postcard Blitz

We are calling on all pet owners, parents, guardians who have lost a pet due to contaminated pet food or had a pet become ill
to join us in a post card blitz to demonstrate the full scope of this pet food recall disaster.

The FDA continues to publicize only "16 confirmed deaths."
This number has often been repeated by the media.
Reliable sources report that the number of pet deaths are and will be much higher
 - most likely in the thousands.

If you want your pet's death or illness to count for something good, please join the My Pet Counts!
Post Card Blitz.

Who:  Anyone who has lost a pet due to contaminated pet food or had a pet
become ill are encouraged to be included, we want all the pets to count!
What:  Post cards may have a picture of your pet, or can be blank.
Purchase cards or design your own.  Each set of postcards represents one pet.
If you have multiple pets who have become sick or died, send multiple cards to each address.
Only one set of postcards per affected pet , please.
Postcards ONLY, this is to ensure the mail is delivered with no security delay.
Where:  No need to leave home.  You can mail your postcards from your own mailbox.

When:  All postcards should be mailed on Saturday, April 28th.
This coincides with the national march organized by KOPS (Keep Our Pets Safe).
If all postcards are mailed on the same day, the impact will be all the greater when
received at the other end.

Why:  By sticking to the "only 16 confirmed deaths" wording this disaster is being grossly minimized.
  The word must get out!

How:  Mail a postcard to each of the addresses provided.

The message should be very short, easy to read, no anger, profanity, or rudeness of any kind.
Let them see your grief.  Tug at their heartstrings. Use your pet’s name.
Use the words "My Pet Counts!"

Just a thought, but what about any coverage by Terri and Bindi Irwin? Perhaps the 'powers-that-be' at The Animal Planet Cable TV might be persuaded to persuade someone to follow through and get this ALL over the press where it belongs. And ~ "arry" ~ thanks for your reply about the hearings coverage today ~ and to E. Hamilton, hope you'll just cuddle up with your critters till the storm blows over ~ Keep the faith ~ Freida

Freida here, to E. Hamilton. I've read your posts again, I get it about this site being for our postcards only.  I've copied your four contacts for the cards and will send those, the day of the march! Was just trying to come up with more ideas for media contacts when I mentioned Terri Irwin, but I see we need to address them to the folks who are supposed to be doing something, and it's clear that Animal Planet already does. I'll keep watch for more ideas, and thank you all for this!
