I had posted yesterday the site link to Onesta Organics.   Onesta Organics was founded by Dr. Heidi Junger, a zoologist and life-long animal lover, who became frustrated with the low quality of commercially available pet foods.   http://onestaorganics.com/about_us.php?osCsid=ea645f9f5e00c2e5a5adb1d4e9c04b79

Anyhow she is in need of votes or nominations at this site to help put her in the running for funds to further her pet food line.  I think it would be wonderful to finally see a truly certified organic pet food and to me, what a great way to take business away from the other pet food companies who could give a darn about our pets.  Last I saw, she had 17 votes and needs at least 50 to be in the running.  You do have to register at the site to nominate her company but for me, its well worth it.  Im hoping others might consider helping her out by voting.  Also I think there is a deadline but cant remember...maybe 9-17?

Im bumping this up so hopefully more votes will come in for Onesta Organics to win this Shine A Light contest.  She has cat treats getting ready to come out and she said her cat food is stuck in the pipeline due to financial constraints.  Lets help this lady get certified organic pet food off the ground!   She needs at least 50 votes, of course more the better, but only has 21 right now.  What a great way to show other pet food companies what we will accept for our pets and its not their crap anymore (in more ways than one), they had many chances to do right and but ignored our concerns and pleas so my feeling is I hope Onesta Organics can get off the ground with more in their food line if they can just get finances to do it.

Could we be being misled by the advertising on this company's website in the same way as some have said that companies like Wellness and Purina have misled us?  Seeing the "organic" and "human-grade" references made me think about that.  I also had some recollection of whether pet foods can be labeled "organic" and found this previous thread here on the forum:

           http://itchmoforums.com/pet-news/natural-human-grade-organic-dog-food-really-t7711.0.html

The following link that is posted on that thread specifically discusses these terminologies, but there are some other links there also that are interesting on this subject.  I have nothing against this company or their product.  I really know nothing about it.  But, there has been so much discussion generally here about how PFCs try to influence our choices, I just thought that perhaps this company is really no different in the way they present their product.

Mandy, I suppose its possible but she is very clear about defining the difference between human-grade, natural, certified organic, organic, etc.  This is a section at her website:
http://onestaorganics.com/blog/?p=278   and this: http://onestaorganics.com/blog/?p=306 and this: http://onestaorganics.com/blog/?p=334 To me, these are the writings of someone who "gets it".  She is a Dr of zoology which would make me inclined to think she has done some research on what constitutes certified organic.  I guess I'd just like to see her get the chance to put out what is possibly a good pet food. This is some more good info about her:     http://www.petproductnews.com/industry_profiles/onesta-organics.aspx
and then she also posted a comment back in June in this article about Nutro, hers is the first comment:

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/features/mutts/blog/2009/06/is_nutro_ignoring_complaints_o.html

Also, if you do a Google search of either her name or the company name, you will find lots more information and it doesnt appear to be misleading in my mind. But you are right, its good to be watchful at the same time.

Oh and I did find out that apparently you can only vote once on the Shine a Light contest but she is also entered under a different contest at Greenwala http://www.greenwala.com/greenwala_contests/all/7-What-s-Your-Story/entries/all/335-Onesta-Organics and you can vote on that once daily.

And note that Im not affiliated with this company in any way....just want to see them get a chance to make certified organic pet food....and then try to convince my Sophers to eat it....sigh...thats another story.   Roll Eyes
