I got an email today from Susan Thixton and she said to forward it and I did to all that I have emails here for---so if you want it too let me know---Basically it is about an email one of her subscribers sent to Mr Nelson, past pres of AAFCO and current Board Member and it was just deleted without being read and maybe that is why we all are being ignored!! PM me if you want to give me you email addy and I will send it along and then you all can too..... I am awaiting Susan's approval to post her message here! I just discovered my email may not have included my BCC's--and I Can send it as a PM here....let me know---the more that know what a great response emails from pet owners get---the more need to be sent! Susan said okay!!
Here's what AAFCO Past President thinks about Consumer Concerns...
This is a prime example of what pet owners are up against with regards to pet food safety...
In response to my last email - informing you of how the FDA and AAFCO is skirting their responsibilities to reform pet food regulations, one of my WONDERFUL newsletter subscribers (you guys are the BEST!) took action and sent a letter (email) of concern to Eric Nelson, former president of AAFCO and current board of director's member.
Before you read Mr. Nelson's response - keep in mind that he's a ‘big dog' with AAFCO - and keep in mind that AAFCO is responsible for pet food ingredient definitions, labeling requirements, and nutrient requirements of pet food that is blindly accepted by the FDA. And, just for kicks, you should know that part of Mr. Nelson's job title is "Trade and Consumer Protection" with AAFCO.
Ok, so here is how Mr. Eric Nelson responded to a pet owning consumer concern to pet food regulation...
From: "Nelson, Eric M - DATCP" <Eric.Nelson@Wisconsin.gov> Sent: Friday, June 13, 2008 9:59 AM Subject: Not read: Reform Food Pet Regulation
Your message
To: Nelson, Eric M - DATCP Cc: Subject: Reform Food Pet Regulation Sent: Fri, 13 Jun 2008 06:23:36 -0500
was deleted without being read on Fri, 13 Jun 2008 08:59:08 -0500
Deleted Without Being Read! Now there's a concerned animal feed professional. I have a few other words to describe Mr. Nelson, but this is a family show - so I'll keep it ‘G' rated. Of all the nerve - to just blatantly ignore a consumer concern - delete an email, and then have the audacity to respond by saying your concern was deleted without being read. In other words - he doesn't care. And - he's not shy about telling you he doesn't care!
My guess is that Mr. Nelson has his priorities - my guess is that Mr. Nelson has children to put through college, and perhaps his priority is paying for that retirement home in Miami Beach. Ya know, if you protect the concerns of Billion dollar a year Pet Food Corporations - you are probably gonna pay off that beach house a lot sooner than if you protect the concerns of consumers. My guess is that the pockets of such officials are lined with gold - compliments of corporations who are grateful for regulations that protect their profits.
I wonder if Mr. Nelson even owns a pet? To be sure - he doesn't care about our pets.
Today is my birthday (no kidding - it actually is) - and I'm asking you for a birthday present. A fantastic birthday present would be for our not-so-friendly AAFCO Official - Mr. Eric Nelson to receive about a million emails and phone calls regarding his blatant disregard of pet food safety. His boss - so to speak - is current president Ricky Schroeder - send him a note too and let's try to get our concerned ‘Consumer Protection' official Mr. Eric Nelson removed from his responsibilities at AAFCO. Obviously Mr. Nelson doesn't care about his job. This guy doesn't deserve to pick up the potty yard at his local animal shelter - never the less have responsibilities on pet food regulations. Below is both their contact information...
Eric Nelson Feed Specialist Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection P.O. Box 8911 Madison, WI 53708 Telephone: 608-224-4539 Fax: 608-224-4656 E-mail: eric.nelson@datcp.state.wi.us URL: http://datcp.state.wi.us/static/pesticide/feed.htm
Ricky Schroeder Office of the Texas State Chemist P.O. Box 3160 College Station, TX 77841-3160 Telephone: 979-845-1121 Fax: 979-845-1389 E-mail: rrs@otsc.tamu.edu
Regulations have to be changed if we can ever hope for safer and healthier pet foods, treats, and toys. Your Congressman/Woman also should be made aware that the past president of AAFCO deleted without reading an email from a concerned consumer. And your Representative should be made aware that AAFCO and the FDA is NOT looking out for the safety of our pets! Refer to the last email for information on what AAFCO and the FDA is not doing (www.truthaboutpetfood.com/fdasaysdogatehomework.html). 64% of all U.S. households own a dog or cat - it's time we are noticed and it's time someone steps up and does something to protect our pets. Please write your Congressman/Woman as well. C'mon - it's my birthday - this would be a fantastic present! And best of all - it's a present all of us can benefit from.
Wishing you and your pet the best,
Susan Thixton Truth About Pet Food Petsumer Report www.TruthAboutPetFood.com
P.S. Please forward this email to every pet owner you know - I'm hoping Mr. Nelson receives at least a million emails!!!

Well, OK, so the server deleted it. Now wouldn't you think the next step would be for them to send an email saying, "sorry, we didn't get the email, please re-send, we are interested in answering your questions, your opinion matters......."

The server probably deleted it because he 'blocked' the domain, so it is still deleted because he wanted it that way.

I'm going through the items on Ms. MacIvor's website re: PF Class Action suit right now. Will be posting these links to that particular thread. This will be one of them, but I think it needs to be posted here also, as it's video of an AAFCO official about dead pets in rendering. You don't have to hide your eyes--no graphic pictures--just him admitting it on camera and being identified as an AAFCO bigwig. http://www.mflegal.com/files/deaddogsinfood.avi

I got a response from Mr. Nelson to my email regarding this saying the server deleted the email, he takes his job seriously, he does not understand why the public thinks AAFCO is not willing to reform pet food, and he does not appreciate being slandered by email. I think it would be libel if the sender did not believe it to be the truth at the time of writing the email, but Mr. Nelson certainly reacted to it.
He also sent a pdf attachment of his Congressional testimony on April 12, 2007, which I attach here for review, on process controls.
I sent an email back to Mr. Nelson and Mr. Schroeder suggesting the public might perceive AAFCO as being interested in pet food ingredient reform if there were many fewer pet food recalls than in recent years, AAFCO was reporting even preliminarily on proposals by its Pet Food Committee, and the CDC and Consumer Reports were not reporting that pet food is a potentially adulterated/contaminated product because of its possible bacterial content. I'm waiting for a reply.

Yeah and awhile back Mike from Defend Our Pets had sent this around: AAFCO, in a letter from its President, Ricky Schroeder, to the FDA/CVM has suggested that the legal requirements imposed by the FDAAA, passed into law last Sept., especially section X dealing with pet food, be combined with an ongoing program called AFSS. This is the so-called Animal Feed Safety System. You can check out the update here:
http://www.fda.gov/cvm/AFSSUpdateIV.htm
At the recent hearings conducted by the FDA/CVM in Maryland, I voiced DefendOurPets strong opposition to combining these two efforts.
In my opinion, combining these two programs, would, at the very least, diminish and dilute the strong and targeted language and programs mandated by the FDAAA.
I urge all of you to contact people at AAFCO and stress your objection to this combination.
www.aafco.org
and go to the list of directors with their email addresses.
Mike Floyd www.defendourpets.orgWhy is it whenever someone hits on a nerve of PFI, AAFCO, or PFC's, they get all pissy? Geesh! All I can say is Im pissy right back at ya buddy! Maybe if they lost a pet over this cwap food they endorse, they would feel a little different about it. They're angry? Well, Im angry right back at them. Thank you so much 3cat, I appreciate the work you are doing on behalf of our pets.
