http://petindustrynews.blogspot.com/2009/06/cvm-addresses-questions-about-gras.html

"GW [Geoffrey Wong, leader of the ingredient safety team at the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), provided the answers.]: The program is considered a pilot program in the sense that the April 17, 1997 proposed rule has not yet been finalized. "

The way this is progressing (or NOT progressing) makes me think that the pet food industry will be muddled forever due to the lack of leadership and action in FDA/CVM/AAFCO. FDA/CVM/AAFCO seems more concerned with not rocking the boats of  some unknown segment of the pet food industry than doing their jobs and IMO are collecting unearned checks from taxpaying citizens.

"If the pet food does not perform in the consumer's hands, then all of the advertising on earth will not be persuasive." Dr. R. Glenn Brown. Canadian Veterinary Journal, Volume 35, in April of 1994
