Homemade food & ammonium urate stones

Hello guys!  I know it's been a long time since I have been here.  I"ll post in the appropriate place about it.

However, I have a questions:  Given that my Egyptian Maus are prone to urate stones (the same as Dalmation dogs, same problem, same reasons), I am switching to TCFeline original formula, because it does not have organ meat in it.  However, how do I balance the meal?  The urate stones come from too many purines in the meats, and that's why I'm avoiding organ meat, because it's heavy in urates.

But that also means I"m not feeding a balanced meal.  I don't know what the liver provides, or how to substitute.

Any ideas?

Can you email the company? I do know that too much liver causes vitamin A toxicity.

You could try BalanceIT instead, it is intended for cooked homemade but you have lots of options to create your own recipe.

Thanks Guys!

I went to the Balance It web site, but I'm not seeing how much of the recipe to feed the cat to get the calories they say it meets.  Maybe I'm just missing it.  But it's nice to have a tool to use.

I've ordered alnutrin to try, it's much cheaper than TCFeline, and I'm wondering if feeding raw is a mistake.  Maybe I should cook the meat, given it's a carrier for pinworms.  Any thoughts?

You could try a quick blanching of the meat . That would kill any pinworms & leave the center raw or lightly cooked . Same idea as veggies , cut the meat into cubes & carefully drop into boiling water for 2 minutes , remove with a slotted spoon & put into an ice water bath . Dry on paper towels or a bleachable dish towel before freezing or using .  That also works for raw bones . I have always found it safe to just freeze any meat I want to feed raw though . I only use local & organic for raw food .
