It appears that cats can catch the virus from humans.

I just saw this! Not good, hopefully can't be transmitted to dogs also . Unfortunately Shadow is due for his rabies shot 5/5 , I will have to let them take him in alone. We have to wait in the car.

Apparently one dog too according to an exotic disease here but recovered.
