Title: Now, who has connections in New Mexico. Anyone?
Post by: bug on December 22, 2011, 07:11:42 PM
So now that we have George back, I'm going to try to help find Pikachu in Albuquerque, NM:

I'm handicapped in that I can't use Facebook for various annoying reasons but if someone knows anyone out there who is willing to help out, I'd sure appreciate the connection. If any of you are on FB, please like the page and share the info with your friends. This little baby HAS to be found.

I know you're close, Fizzy. Wanna take a short trip, lol!?

Oh, bug, this just makes me sick to my stomach.  The weather is really not good at all there.  I can only hope the little kitty has been taken in by someone.

"Close" is a relative term, lol.  It's about a 7 hour drive.  We have done it at Christmas time before and came home in blizzard conditions.  I never want to go thru that again, it was scary.  I think our member Bridgett lives there, but I'm not sure if she checks in here very often.

I will light a candle and hope that the good people who are looking for him are successful in their search.

Bug,
Has anyone let the local bicycle clubs know?  BF and I are cyclists - I'm sure they would be on the lookout.

I'll look for more clubs later.

Awesome idea, Spartycats. They have snow, but I'm sure there are hardcore cyclists there, as there are here (biking in -30C, yeeesh).

Fizzy, I know it's gotten cold there and there's snow, but I'm not as concerned about that because I know cats, even kittens his age can be fine in that weather. We've found ones younger in colder weather and they were fine. If they're out long enough without being in a small, confined area, they could suffer frostbite to their ears or tail, but it takes quite a bit to get them to the point of critical.

I'm thinking someone has him. Wouldn't most people pick up a cat that has a harness on with a leash attached? Problem is, many of the locals are Mexican and don't speak English and wouldn't know what to do with him.

I've now sent out poster in Spanish as well and they're being shared in that community.

My most frustrating thing is that I have not been able to talk to Ted. I'm working on that. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

I just checked the Facebook link above and Pika has been found!!  He's lost a lot of weight but otherwise seems okay.

Yep, we got him back this morning. He needs to gain weight back before he can go anywhere and we will be persuading Ted to take him back home to his mom's house to live in happiness the rest of his life, unless Ted gets his own place and doesn't take him out on tour anymore. Ted really does love this little guy. As soon as he heard, he rented a car and is now driving back from Vegas to Alb. to make sure his little boy is OK. He doesn't even have time to post.

Posters and flyers. The posters get the people and the people get the cat home.

Ahhh. Another one down. Next up, probably Sylvester in Fayetteville.

ETA: I've dubbed this little side venture "Meownty Hunters." It's totally non-profit and I hope to have at least one really great connection all over north America I could tap when cats get lost who will have my info on how to search and so on. Soo important to have people who are willing to help.

Update. I just got off the phone with Ted and he is so overjoyed and grateful to everyone that has helped in the search for Pikachu. He was holding his little boy and listening to his happy purrs. I don't think I've ever heard or seen a man love a cat so much in my entire life. As Pikachu recovers, Ted will be helping out at the local shelter and assisting one of the people that helped search for Pika find her own lost cat. Southwest airlines has graciously offered to fly him and Pika, in the cabin, home once he has been given a clean bill of health and is able to travel. Of course, I told him to call me before that happens, so I can give him some tips, because I don't want to have to do another lost cat at the airport search.

Here is a very nice article about Meownty Hunters and how it helped find Pikachu in New Mexico. Our bug gets national attention :)   http://www.koat.com/video/30282561/detail.html

After all of the hard work to find Pika, I was a bit upset to learn that Ted has been taking Pika out again for video making.  Personally, I wouldn't risk it.  I know he's doing it for a good cause, but there are many other ways to be supportive.  I hope Pika stays safe.

Thanks guys. It was a group effort, that's for sure. The girls in New Mexico and others in Arizona, New York and other states all contributed in some way to bring him home. As far as his new adventures, well, I can disagree all I want but at some point, I have to just be happy with what has been done and hope for the best for both of them.
