Title: Instestinal Noises in the Night
Post by: merrihart on March 25, 2011, 09:59:47 AM
I just wanted to share something that happened very early this morning.  Don't know if anyone else experiences this with their cats, or if it's part of CRF, or just Bucky.

I hope this is becuase he is drinking more water.  I got a proper cat drinking fountain this week and set it up right away, so there's plenty of running water now for him.

Bucky likes to lay on my pillow with his butt on my shoulder, which puts his lower body right next to my ear.  (Usually the right shoulder, but sometimes the left.)

Last night I woke up to a cacphony of gurgling, popping and squishing noises, all coming from his intestines.  I didn't want to roll away from him, since it makes me feel like a cad.  Then I got an idea.

I started using ttouches on him, cloud leopard touches and tarantula touches, along his spine and side.  I do the cloud leopard touches with the lay of his fur, then do the tarantula against the lay of his fur, lifting his fur and letting air circulate, all the way up to his ears.  Down along his spine, then down along his side, then lower if his belly is exposed enough, all the way down to his hind legs (which are weak).

I did it for a few minutes, stopped and rested my arm, then did it again.  And then again.  After the third time, the cacaphony of intestinal noises began to subside and finally his body was quiet and we could both go to sleep.

So, I'm thinking that the ttouches helped the blood to circulate better and his body could shift the liquid?  Or maybe it's just coincidence.  But I do know Bucky loves it when I do this form him, and he will even ask for it sometimes, by laying down at my feet on his side and raising a paw in the air.

And in case your wondering how loud his gut is...I told the vet tech last time that we were there about it.  His gut let out a "pop" and she turned to me with her eyes all wide.  Yup, I could hear it from 2 feet away.

merrihart, the only experience I have with those noises was when KiKi had IBD and had alot of excess stomach acid going on but she also had lots of diarrhea and vomiting that went along with the IBD, so Im sure you would know if that was what was going on with Bucky.  I have no experience with CRF but I know too many others here have.  Its interesting that you are able to get the gurgling stopped with ttouch, I have read ttouch can work pretty well. Either way just wanted to send {{{hugs}}} to you and Bucky, bless his heart.

It could just be aging and it taking longer to digest his food. I am noticing this more often with Punkin [22] & he doesn't have any health problems other than losing a lot of weight, not eating well & drinking a lot of water. I do find an acidophilus pill stiired into his food helps a little . Tummy & back rubs do seem to help here also. I don't know if Bucky will still eat raw, I don't see it as much when Punkin eats raw but more when he eats dry.

Since I had my gallbladder removed I have the loudest gurgling gut noises. I mean I think the neighbors can hear them! It usually only lasts for a few minutes, then it settles down. I wish someone would give me a massage when that happens!  ;D
