Title: Great news for all Australian companion animals.
Post by: The Cats Mother on March 10, 2011, 03:25:33 AM
Great news for Australian pets.  The Australian Standard for manufacturing and marketing of pet food becomes effective today, 10 March. The committee (pet food industry, government and NGO members) were surprised by the degree of consumer interest and the high number of public comments received on the draft.

Just goes to show what people power & determined persistence can achieve. Thanks to anyone I emailed that commented & has championed this cause for the past 2+ years since the Origen scandal & the paralysis and deaths of 100 Australian cats.

Congratulations on your success!  You deserve some sort of medal for what you have managed to do.  I think that pet owners around the world owe you the utmost in gratitude.

I'm honored to have had contact with a person who has made all the difference for the animals of Australia. You don't often find someone with such perseverance and drive. Congratulations and I hope you continue to fight for their continued health. I also have to commend the government for actually listening and implementing the will of the people. To have this move "on the books" speaks loudly to other governments. It's a precedent and I know we will be using your example in the future to better the lives of our own animals.

Well...thank you...it was a concerted effort though, the veterinary association and the RSPCA were pushing hard too. I did get a nice thank you from my contact at the RSPCA for the part I played and a book about cats written by their CEO. I had sent her a copy of ZAPPED! Irradiation and the death of food.

Yes let us hope other governments follow suit. As long as we have a good independent auditor to police the Australian Standard - that's what will make it work.

It may have been many people & organizations involved, but you & the other families affected by Orijen are the driving force. You should be very proud !
