Title: Greenies Pill Pockets
Post by: JustMe on March 08, 2011, 11:06:27 AM
Has anyone used these lately?  Any problems. Bought some of the cat ones for pilling, and forgot they had wheat gluten.  Haven't used wheat gluten in almost 4 years.   :-X

Use these daily and am swarmed by the others who want a treat. 45 pieces only last three days with these little monsters!  Praying for no problems.  Please, if we can have one sigh of relief somewhere.

We used these for Scooby, so that's not very recently.  I really had no choice because she was on so many pills :-\  AFIK, she had no problems due to the gluten.  She gladly ate them which made my life so much easier then it could have been.

Fizzy wouldn't touch them.

I just used these for Mandy's Baytril.  She does not like them.  I was successful getting her to take them for 2 days before she refused - pill or no pill!  I had tried to use them previously when she had her bladder surgery - same result, but it took 4 whole days for her to refuse!  Fortunately, they have a money back guarantee (printed on the bottom of the package), so I just took them back for a refund in both cases.   :-\  I have heard that most people are very successful with them, though, and that their cats just love them!  I think they are just fine for their purpose if your cat likes them.

There is also a product called Flavr-Doh to use for pilling cats or dogs.  The problem is that you can only get it at a vet office or on-line, so, unless you think of buying it to have on hand or your vet carries it (my doesn't), you can't just go to a store and get it.  When I was unsuccessful with the Pill Pockets, I looked up the Flavr-Doh to see what was in it.  It is just Flour, Oil, and Chicken.  So, I tried to make my own by mixing flour, vegetable oil, and baby food chicken meat to make a consistency like play-dough, which is what this product is like.  Mandy would eat it alone, but after twice with pills, she rejected that too.   :P  Her nose is just too good and she isn't fooled too long by pills in any kind of food.   :D

Thanks for your responses.  Davey wouldn't touch the Greenies.  I tried them on a healthy cat first and he went bonkers for them.   :P

I ended up transferring the clindamycin into a smaller capsule and using the pill popper. You're right, MandyCat.  Clindamycin tastes nasty.  I also had to give Davey his Petinic (iron supplement)...then I followed them with a water chaser.
