Title: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on January 28, 2011, 05:23:09 AM
Ok folks, I know I need to get out to more cat shows, or at least learn the Siamese variations. Bug isn't a part seal point, the term for her is actually Lynx or tabby point.? Can't tell if she is purebred or not. Sorry about the rough cell phone pic but you can see her points, she has bright blue eyes:
And Smokey with her inquisitive expression sitting with Amir:

Ooh, they are adorable!

Smokey and Amir kind of look like Fhizzy and Friday!   :D

Oh, Bugaboo is so pretty!  I don't know if she is purebred either, but she is one elegant little kitten, and don't let her think those other siamese are any more pretty than she is.  *nods firmly*

Smokey is very pretty too, though of course in a different fashion.   ;)  Amir looks totally flamoozled.

Mwah!  :-*  They are so cute, how old are they, I cant remember?  They still have "kitten" in them, getting the sort of gangly look like they are having trouble keeping up with all the growing they are doing.  Sigh...Meowli...its not that I want your relative to not keep her kitties...but on the other hand they have fit in so well with your family.....

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on January 28, 2011, 06:55:41 PM
I'm not exactly sure on their ages, but from conversations with our niece, I am guessing they are likely 9 to 10 mos now tops. They are still in the gangly stage, and their appetites sure fit the fast growing they seem to be doing. ;D

What cuties!  I think you are getting very attached to these little darlings, despite their antics!  But, until your niece takes them home, enjoy them and continue to share your stories and pictures with us.   :)

We love them dearly. They are, however, very rambunctious and I am sooo glad I hid some of the breakables away before they came!

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: JJ on January 29, 2011, 04:40:25 AM
Very cute. Hope you do not find it difficult to 'give them up' when your niece is ready for them. Good ideas to put up breakables. Like having a 2 yr. old child - things happen so fast when they are zooming around on their lil legs.

What cuties!  And Amir looks resigned to their presence now - but tell me, has he managed to lie down in that box & totally burst the sides yet?  ;)

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on January 29, 2011, 07:49:06 AM
Amir has managed to lie down in the box and yes the box is since sort of flattened.   :P He always thinks he fits in small boxes but always there is, shall we say, an "overflow" of cat paunch. I do like that he is less of a couch potato since the girls came, and a little bit more active. He likes the chase-string games.

Smokey in her favorite place where I threw a blankie over everything. The throw was supposed to keep the kittens out of the boxes, but they like to sit up there....
I've nicknamed her "Smokarina Ballerina" .....

 ;D
These little girls are bouncing off the walls at times....Smokey has discovered she can get up on the highest shelf and Bugaboo is finding tight places she can fit going in but getting stuck going out... :P Then after I get them out of their jams, they look up at me like "so whats the big deal..?" Typical kittens.... ;D

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on March 14, 2011, 03:29:21 PM
Today they were back to tearing around the house and getting into stuff. MY stuff!

And Miss Bugaboo surprised me tonight with her boldness: She likes the boys a lot, but when Casey tried to nose into her food dish at supper, she actually hissed at him to back off! And he did! I've had cats that growled at others to stay away from their food- never one that hissed.
After that they were friends again, and now are sleeping near each other on the couch. :P

Sounds like they are doing well!  :)  Glad you could keep them.  Do they have the dissolving stitches?

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on March 17, 2011, 12:11:46 PM
The stitches are the dissolvable type. Smokey's aren't visible anymore, just that tiny tell-tale lump, and Bugaboo's still has a tiny brownish spot but it does not look like an infection, just something not dissolved yet.
Right now Smokes is trying to balance/ walk on the top of a wooden rocking chair and Bug is too quiet probably getting into something. ;D

They really are a wrecking crew! Last night they got into one thing after another during the times when they weren't chasing each other around the house or body slamming wrestling each other. Must be spring fever!
Since our niece did not know when they were born, we have decided to make their birthday tomorrow - April 1st/April Fools day. It seems to fit the little cuties ha ha....

Yesteday a three ring circus. With Amir having his symptoms, maybe the girls thought thay weren't getting enough attention, so they got into trouble. Casey was the only quiet one.
The great refrigerator caper:
Bugaboo started the day out for DH. He opened the fridge to give the girls a snack, closed the door, then saw Smokey on the table waiting for hers, but no Bugaboo. He called her a few times, figured she changed her mind, then opened the fridge to put the food back and there was Bug inside sitting on the shelf. She was only in there about a minute, but it scared the heck out of him. How did she manage to sneak inside in a quick second?  ???

Caught in midair:
Not to be outdone, Smokey jumped up on a shelf from where she was trying to leap behind/beside the fridge, thought I had barricaded the area enough (who-knows-what gross dirt and dust that I can't reach is there). I ran and grabbed for her in mid-air, ending up holding only her tail before I got a grip on the rest of her. I ended up making a better crude cardboard barricade, hopefully she can't get through that.

I had a friend over for a visit and we attempted to have soup and sandwiches. Even after they all ate, I kept having to remove the kittens from the table.
I have to post this and continue in another post, as the scroll bar won't let me go further...

LOL "Who, us?  We wouldn't do any of those things that scare our people half to death!  We are just such sweet and innocent little things..."

One of the things I've found helpful to keep cats from using the top of the refrigerator as a "staging area" for further adventures is to get those large plant-fiber storage bins (think they are seagrass or something like that) with no lids, and set them on top of the refrigerator.  (The storage space is useful in my small kitchen anyway.) The plant-fiber ones are not too bad looking; you can get them at places like Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ikea, etc.  But you have to fill them with items so they don't think that these are new cat beds!

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on April 05, 2011, 03:38:56 AM
DH went out and got a plain thick board and we now have it sitting on top of the refrigerator overhanging the last drop-space. It holds their weights ok, and I hope we don't have to barricade any further.  :P

I keep telling the girls that they are no longer kittens, but young lady cats now, and they should chill out on the naughty antics - but - they don't listen.... ;D

They are a circus for sure! Actually I am calling Bugaboo  "Princess Thugaboo" as her alpha-cat nature is becoming more apparent. And Smokey's head and body doesn't seem to have grown into her large ears and big feetsies, yet , so I affectionately call her my little "Cattywompus" cat...

Remember, they all have at least three names...and one is a secret.   ;)  These are perfect nicknames for the Trouble-maker Twosome!

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on April 10, 2011, 07:37:16 PM
Princess Thugaboo strikes again: I made some ziti with tomato sauce for supper, filled my plate then turned my back to put something in the fridge. Bad decision. All the cats were circling the table at that point, but Miss Bugaboo decided for a snatch and grab. She jumped up and swiped a whole 2" piece of ziti and ran off with it. She ate it then came back and grabbed some more! Smokey begged for ziti too. What ever  happened to cats being "obligate carnivores"? I wouldn't mind, but they eat the sauce, too. And the salad if I let them!

DH felt like pizza more than ziti. He got a delivery and sat on the couch to watch tv and eat the pizza - again with 4 cats intently watching for cheese handouts and Casey sitting on the box. Quick as a flash, Bug stuck out her little paw and she had slid a whole slice of pizza nearly entirely off the plate before DH grabbed it back! :P

They all ate a good supper tonight, guess they like Italian food too....
 ;D

What little stinkers!

We had a cat that loved Italian, but then, my father found him behind an Italian restaurant.  ;)

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on April 11, 2011, 03:47:14 AM
Merrihart, maybe the chefs at the restaurant gave the cat delicious scraps, and he grew to love the food!

Most of our cats have enjoyed "pizza night", but these girls - especially Bugaboo - go nuts over it. Pizza, pasta in sauce, everything one wouldn't think a cat would like. Bug grabs food right off our plates runs off to hide and enjoy it, then growls to keep everyone away. Time to learn some table manners kitty.

They had no tummy troubles this morning. Clean plates at breakfast. ;D

LOL Bugaboo!  What a little terror she is! ;D  These two definitely keep life interesting!

One of our cats, Kalahari, had a taste for pasta in sauce when she was younger, too.  She would do it just like Bugaboo, fly in and snatch it from the plate.  Once, she even grabbed some long spaghetti between my daughter's mouth and the plate!  It never bothered her digestion, either.  These days, she is not interested in the pasta but loooves the Parmesan.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on April 11, 2011, 05:26:46 AM
I am glad to know Bugaboo isn't the only one who has done the people-food plate grabbing! There is hope then, that Bug will outgrow this habit!

I attributed their strange appetites to the fact that they were starving feral kittens at one point so they learned to eat just about anything.
?

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: merrihart on April 11, 2011, 08:40:12 AM
I dont know, Meowli.  Bucky will try anything he sees me eating.  He is also now stalking my dinner plate.  And 'bisi has no table manners to speak of, so I am really quick on the draw when eating, because one or the other will be working the space to see if they can lick my food before I see them.   :-X

Oh my goodness...food thieves.  ;)
Bennie never got up on the table but whenever we cooked out steaks, she would come calling for her bites.
One of our other kitties, Jack, loved pepperoni. Whenever we would get a pizza we had to watch out as he would jump up and try to steal a piece.
Max and Raleigh don't seem to be interested in people food and we are hoping to keep it that way. :D

They are the prettiest little plate raiders! All my Mom's cats' would go through fast food nostalgia whenever we had some at her house. The cats had all been strays right off the streets. We suspected they'd been dining out of the dumpsters behind the fast food establishments in the neighborhood.

I remembering fretting about what kind of work chair to buy -- it was hard finding one that had closed armrests so that it would box in the Larges... I see I probably didn't need to have gone to the trouble!  That's a great fit by Bugaboo and Smokey!

This is my excuse for not being able to throw out that empty tissue box the other night...
I know cats use strange things as pillows, Bug looks contently asleep but I don't see how she was so comfortable in that position...

Meowli, Bugaboo and Smokey have such gorgeous soft colors, I love that...I think its called diluted?  They are looking really good too, nice and healthy.  I dunno know about the kleenex box, silly Bugaboo, I keep trying to imagine me using a box for a pillow and cant get past the sharp edges, lol  I guess its just a kitty thing.  According to sweet Bugaboo, whatever works.  :-*

Thanks everyone! They do look so sweet (asleep anyhow) - that even if they are sleeping in an inconvenient or inappropriate place (like mid-dining room table :P) I feel that since they are behaving and quiet I let them stay. The table is covered in washable heavy gauge vinyl and cleanup is easy.

I guess Smokey is an any-food fiend, she goes around like a little hoover for crumbs, and who-knows-what. She upchucked her little tummy out this morning -first time since the anesthesia from the spay. No hairball came out just food and liquid.
Mommy's putting them on catfood only for awhile and cleaning house real good today, yipes.
I am going to watch what she does at lunch.

How are our wild and crazy girls, Bugaboo and Smokey doing?

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on May 12, 2011, 11:06:22 AM
They are still wild and getting crazier, Sandi. Bugaboo has recently dropped hissing at the others at mealtime, and taken up growling when I first put the food down. I think she's afraid someone will steal her food (although she still has no hesitation to steal someone else's!) The other three stop in their tracks when they hear her and stare at her like she's nuts. :P

The new fun game:
They both can make "the high shelf" now...we have high 8ft ceilings and one living room wall is all built-in 7 ft high bookcase. From other shelves in the room they can make it in two jumps and run the length of the room along the top shelf. Oh well, as long as they have figured out how to get down.
Gray hair? Me?

LOL Meowli, its just a never-ending source of entertainment with these two, isnt it?  Im always watching this thread to see what they have gotten into or come up with lately.  I swear they must have "meetings" to discuss the next adventure to seek out.  :-*

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on May 13, 2011, 03:46:43 PM
Amir and Casey were relatively quiet kittens, not since Oscar's kittenhood over 15 years ago has there been that really off-the-wall crazy kitty energy around here. Until the girls  ;D
Never a dull moment for sure!

Since the girls were spayed, Smokey has rebuffed Casey's advances a couple of times and I think that resulted in a little bit of tension between the two.No big fights, a couple of head bops here and there.  I see a wee bit of jealousy on Casey's part also, like if I pay attention to her, he will come up and demand attention too.

Poor Casey, one day its the romance of the century, the next day she dumps him with a smack to the head! :P

Bugaboo and Amir are friendly, I still see him washing her face on occasion and they will often nap close to each other.

I think your other kitties are handling the "new-comers" pretty well indeed.  Casey, poor guy, all I can say is you better get used to it....dont ever expect to know whats up..or down...with girl kitties.  ;)  Maybe Casey can arrange a phone call with catbird's Linley, he has experienced similar smack-downs by the gals in his household, if I remember right.  He might have some helpful info.   :D  :-*

The love birds....Bugaboo and Amir, who would have thunk it?
You can tell on Amir where he has scratched his head by his ear...looks a bit ratty. I'm still trying to eliminate foods to see what has set this off  :P
Second pic is Bugaboo and Smokey's new favorite "toy"...a roll of paper towels

Thanks everyone. To answer the questions: Amir was 17 pounds at last weigh-in.
From having to pick up both girl cats at once off the kitchen counter and carry them off one under each arm....  :P I can tell that Bugaboo actually feels a bit heavier. She is longer and built more solid- Smokey is a little shorter, fluffier but... has, well, to be blunt, a bit of a butt on her. :P

;D That first photo of Bugaboo and Amir is just too cute...and the paper towel photo too...and the sink photo. The cats look great in all the pics. We used to have to hide the paper towels from a master shredder too, as well as lift cats off counters...

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on July 06, 2011, 12:52:03 PM
Another month gone by and and now I can verify that Smokey weighs more than Bugaboo, Sandi K you called it right on before I could feel it holding them!  Bug will probably stay her Siamese build and size and Smokey has filled out with muscle as well as "fluff ". She has now become the "hoover" of the crowd and we have to guard that she doesn't steal the others food. I also don't want her to gain any more.

Bug is graceful looking but is clumsy at times. The latest example was today - she was on the fridge or a shelf next to it, and just "rolled off"...onto a side table holding DH's 2 quart pitcher of iced tea. All the tea went onto the floor, DH was in a tizzy, the poor cat ran and I had to calm her down. She seems ok just shaken up.

Oh poor Bug and DH!  Guess you could start calling her TeaBug, instead of teabag :D  Glad to hear she's not hurt.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Sandi K on July 06, 2011, 01:27:21 PM
Aawww, so Bugaboo isnt so graceful, lol  She makes up for it in beauty though.  I can relate to the klutziness myself.  LOL, on the weight thing Meowli, I think I recognized it in the loooong kitty sticking out of the sink in that picture you posted...I figured with her being that long she was going to be larger.   We now need new pictures to see how big they are getting!  :-*

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: catbird on July 06, 2011, 04:14:38 PM
Ah, Bugaboo just wants to make sure she's noticed! ;D  I'd say she succeeded in this case, although some of the other results might not have been what she anticipated.  Glad she's OK, though.

I feel for dh.  My tea is my life line.   :P

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on July 06, 2011, 06:31:02 PM
It was this instant tea stuff with aspartame so I was more worried about the cat getting it on her and licking it than DH losing his tea fix. ;D

We've had other cats that rolled off furniture before, missed jumps, and otherwise acted klutzy, but the great tea caper wins the prize today.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: NedF on July 06, 2011, 10:07:03 PM
My kitties seem to be going through a klutz stage as well but nothing as exciting as a tea flood! I'm glad she's ok.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on July 07, 2011, 02:52:02 AM
Merrihart, I feel the same way about coffee, my lifeline. I think I was not so sympathetic to DH because I have asked him to be careful about putting things in potenial "cat landing areas"-also I really don't approve of the ingredients in his "tea" drink.
Ned, it was a  hardwood floor the tea spilled on, a little seeped through the floorboards into the cellar, and I was the one ending up cleaning the mess. Ah, Bugaboo in the klutz stage....

Well, I did NOT make DH a new pitcher full.

Oops I will try to post more pictures at some point, computer has been cranky.
They are still up to mischief. If I forget to  put something heavy over the tub drain when I leave the shower, like today- Miss Boo takes the little drain trap thingie out and bats it around the house. Can't stay mad, she comes over to me purring and kneading and doing the love bug thing and I melt. Smokey is part piglet part cat. She begs for food shamelessly and always tries to get into my plate. But then she does the roll over on back and purr love bug routine and I melt.
They are now just as spoiled as the boys. Eek.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on September 30, 2011, 12:28:51 PM
The latest in naughty: This morning while I was in the shower, I heard DH 2 rooms away howling in such loud distress you'd think the world ended. Thinking he was hurt or in trouble, I dashed out of the shower into the living room still naked and dripping wet only to find out that the big emergency was that when he put his blueberry muffin down Smokey started tasting it. Bugaboo was circling for second try. Since DH knows how cats ....bathe....he wasn't keen on having her mouth on his food. What a big baby and I called him that. I had to take the "used" muffin myself and get him a new one.

He hasn't learned not to leave unattended blueberry muffins around with these girls.

I had a trail of water all from the bathroom to the living room. Thank heavens all the curtains were closed!

I've seen many a cat with that "who me I'm innocent" look on their faces -while they sit there licking their lips near food I've been preparing. The only difference is that these gals aren't always sneaky enough to wait till our backs are turned-they'll go after our food right in front of us..

Cat spit is a condiment.

Warm from the dryer, nice to snuggle in on a cool fall day. I think cats must be smarter than us hoomans. ;D
Oscar was the cat who claimed first dibs on the laundry before I got a chance to sort it out on the bed (he'd follow me into the room if he saw me with the basketful). Amir must have been taking notes as he is now the laundry king.....

Oh gosh, thanks for the new pictures!  They all look so content.  Are they all getting along OK?  Is it my imagination or does sweety-pie bugaboo have extra big eyes?  With that short nose and large eyes, her whole little face is taken up with major cuteness! Mwah!

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey

They all get along, there may be minor squabbles over things like cardboard boxes, and wrestling matches and chasedowns...but generally they are all peaceful.
They do wait, of course, until after I vacuum the dark blue liv rm rug to do their wrestle playfights...cat fur on navy rug, very lovely.
Sandi,I think Bugaboo does indeed have large eyes. She looks so innocent.... ;D

The girls are such charactors, and keep the boys on their toes...er paws. And they keep me in gray hairs, too. I found out the other night that Bugaboo does not do the "slide and glide" off  high places... she was rolling around and rolled off a shelf before I could run and catch her. She landed on all fours ok but made a rather ungraceful dismount.   :P
Never a dull moment...
A few days ago Miss Smokey and Amir got into a tiff and I thought Amir who is twice her size might hurt her and... so I tried to separate the two. But Smokey- the- bold follows and kept going right up to the big guy and staring him down. It took a major food bribe to calm everyone down. Yikes. Smokey will stand up to Casey too if need be, and not back down, the little tuffy.
So...usually everyone gets along and behaves...just every now and then they decide things are too dull and do something crazy...

Smokey does like to sit up like a person on the couch occasionally...I handed her the remote and she thought it was a great toy to bat and chew.
Bugaboo likes to sit on the table - I think the overhead dining room light gives off warmth like a heatlamp. She seemed so content.

How have our infamous wrecking crew, Bugaboo and Smokey been doing?

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on September 13, 2012, 05:21:36 PM
Sigh, I had hoped to put up some more pictures by now. When i put up the butterfly pictures in the Spring thread, I noticed something between my cell phone and computer had changed the size arrgg. I will post some of my crew as soon as I fix this, maybe can get some clear pics by then.
The wrecking crew is still at it, although not 24.7 like young kittens thank goodness.

Bugaboo nearly gave me a heart attack last month.

I keep a small metal pill case in my pocketbook, which had one pill in it at the time (a very dangerous to cats type). The case was slipped into in a back pocket of the handbag along with my cell phone, and the whole thing was sitting on the dining room table, Well my bad...I didn't zip up my handbag, looked away for ONE minute, turned around and saw Pickpocket-Bugaboo pulling my cell  phone among other things out of my bag. I then checked for that pill case, gone! Looked everywhere, had visions of the pill falling out of the box and getting licked, and midnight trips to the vet...I finally found the darn thing, intact and still closed, under a bookcase, Obviously small metal boxes are perfect for playing cat-hockey. I zip up everything well now.
 :P

Bugaboo does look a bit perturbed, but Smokey definitely looks very satisfied with her choice of a place for her nap!   :D  Casey looks very comfy, and Bugaboo is probably saying "Maybe I won't be used for a pillow if I take a nap in here!".   ;D  They all look great, Meowli!   :)

A tale of two naughty girls....

The other day I picked up a few pretty red maple leaves 4 or 5 - and brought them in to use in some craft project....then I put them on a high shelf...and half forgot about them.

DH and I had to leave the house for several hours today.. upon return the shelf had several things knocked off onto the floor, and there was only a leaf and a half remaining to be found...
My bad.

Casey can't get up there. Smokey and Bug can and probably worked the caper together. These two were ferals once, one would think they had lost their appetite for trees... :P Are they crazy?

So far no pukies...or else this would be in the sick pet thread. Will watch what ends up in the litterboxes. Keeping paws crossed..

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey

They must be related to Phantom, who never met a dead leaf she didn't like!  Hope they don't suffer any uh, undesirable results.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Sandi K on October 07, 2012, 06:29:24 PM
I would love to hear their "cat conversation" when they were cooking up the plan to get up there, I can just hear it now.

"OK Bugaboo, you get on my back and I will lift you up and once you're up, you pull me up by my paw.  OK?  High five!"   :D

I just love these girls.  I swear they are pretty darn smart.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey

Smart little scavengers. Bug gets up on the kitchen counter, opens a cabinet door and stands on her tippytoes to stare inside. If there was any space on the shelf she'd probably climb in. The cabinet where the cat food is, has a tight sticking door...she picks on the one  next to it which opens too easily. I try to sneak up on her doing this with my cell phone camera but since she knows she's not supposed to be there, sees me coming and hightails it away.  She does this at least once a week...one of these days there will be a picture...

Bugaboo is an exceptionally beautiful cat.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on October 10, 2012, 05:27:37 PM
Thanks. I think Bug knows she is beautiful too, acting the royal fussy princess she is. ;D Strange, been around many coat patterns of cats most of my life, but never a combo tabby/siamese before these girls came. She has the siamese voice, too.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: merrihart on October 10, 2012, 05:32:52 PM
I think siamese are a tabby, but they have the spotted gene and for some reason, it comes out in points, instead of an over all body pattern.  I do know when they breed with american short hairs, the offspring come out like bugaboo.  Beautiful.

Smokey loves her special corner of the couch, she was stretching after a long nap and flexing out her toesies...she has big feetsies for a cat and they look bigger when she stretches them.

The girls are often glued to the window looking out to the back yard. There are lots of birds and squirrels and endless entertainment. I think I hear them "chattering" at them sometimes...

Never a dull moment. Smokey the naughty girl. Tonight she forgot she is no longer a "thin kitten" and is way too big/pudgy to wedge herself in a small space between a wall and a big wardrobe cabinet. DH was napping and frantic scratching woke him up. Of course it was up to me to perform the rescue. It took several tries to grab and haul her out of that tight place from the side. She never cried but she looked scared and her little heart was really beating hard when I pulled her out. The likely entrance is blocked off with just cardboard for now, will have to fix it better later.  Bugaboo heard the excitement and of course wanted to investigate the cabinet.
Crazy cat!
Now everyone is calmed down and purring...except me. :P

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey

My darling girls, at quarter to 5 this morning, decided to chase down a large centipede.  :P Lovely.

I got up to go to the bathroom, more than still half asleep and there was Smokey in full "critter concentration stare mode" in the hallway, Bugaboo close behind her. I think they chased the thing into the bathroom as it came in under the door ..I stood up and screamed and hit at it, it ran back out into the hallway...with all three of us in pursuit. Two seconds later  Smokey-the-great-hunter had it on the living room rug  (did she pick it up or just chase it who knows???) and after a short chase I was able to step on it. Casey was smart enough to go hide from the ruckus under an ottoman. DH slept through the whole thing. The girls were still sniffing the carpet a half hour after I removed what was left of the centipede corpse.

We are in a small creaky old house full of cracks and crannies and a damp cellar. I used to see several of these yucky bugs coming in the house every fall when it starts to get chilly at night... haven't seen any at all in a few years

Apparently nobody got bitten, no sore mouthies or paws. Just Mommy's nerves..  :P

The latest caper 2 days ago:
I have a very old sewing basket, nearly overflowing with stuff, and the latch is flimsy. Nobody ever messed with it too much before...
But- enter Miss Smokey - who apparently climbed on top of it and for whatever reason missed on her dismount and knocked it off the table.

I heard this awful crash from across the house, ran over and saw a scared Smokey running from the scene and the whole sewing basket and ALL of it's contents ( threads bobbins needles and all..) scattered all over the floor. Of course it was after 10:00 at night and I was tired. But cleanup could not wait. After picking up all the big stuff, I ran the vac over the entire floor just in case small items such as needles were missed.  :P

Poor SMokey, that must have been scarey :(  And for you too, with needles and threads in the mix!

I'm afraid to drag out my years long cross-stitch project just because of the needle & threads.

I think the good magnet (magnetic seam guide to put on the sewing machine) was one of the things that got dumped out of the box and when I picked up what I could by hand I just dumped it all back into the box..:P. I did go over the floor quite a bit with the vac though.
One of these days I will have to do a project reorganizing the mess of sewing supplies, not looking forward to that...

Oh well, you probably needed something to do over the holiday break . . . glad that you were able to get everything picked up. Knowing cats, they would find the ONE pin or needle you missed. Silly girl (Smoky)

DH has this old box from the store that he stores his oversized extension cords in. The girls have taken turns sleeping in there so I put a cat blankie on top of DH's stuff to make it more comfy for them.  :D
They still like my computer chair though...especially since I added a seat cushion...

Bugaboo's turn to act up: For the first time in months yesterday (due to weather and medical issues) I finally got to go out to lunch & shopping yesterday with one of my friends. Shortly after I left the house Bug started crying and carrying on non-stop! DH went into a panic and tried to calm her down for over an hour. The girls had already just polished off a 6 oz can of food so it wasn't hunger.  A cheese bribe helped but he thought she was either sick or somehow having symptoms of heat again. ???   ::)    ???
Anyhow as soon as I came home she was calm and happy. Oh dear do I have a cat with separation anxiety? Could she have really missed me that much?

She had plenty of fun with the stuff I brought home and also the box that came in the mail yesterday... :P

Bugaboo is so cute!

Yes, being either Siamese or part Siamese, Bugaboo could indeed have been suffering from separation anxiety, especially since she got used to having you home for quite some time (glad those issues are improved and you can get out!). Siamese as a breed are known to bond very, very strongly with their people, and can indeed become closely attached to one person. Hopefully as she gets used to your being out more again, this will lessen.

But in the meantime, I don't know what would help; hopefully someone will have suggestions.

Try talking to her when you go out. I started to have this with Oreo after being home so long, now I tell him where I'm going & when I will be back . It has helped a little, but he is sticking to my daughter like glue. Toys that light up & make noise seem to distract him a little too, they are always out when I get home .

Whats funny is that whenever any of my friends or family come in the house, Bugaboo is all over them and ignoring me..like yesterday.  :P
I've gone outside for a couple of very short walks by myself in the past couple of months with no cat issues. I wonder if she thinks that when I specifically go out with my friend it seems "a long time" before I come back?
Thanks. I will try to get some different cat toys...

Awww, Bugaboo is such a gorgeous girl.  Its sweet that she misses you so much but I know you dont want her stressing so much and I know it upsets you and DH to see her so upset too.  I wonder if she is jealous...when you go out with your friend, do they come to get you and come into the house before you leave?

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on January 26, 2014, 02:29:36 PM
Yes, and yesterday my friend came in for at least 15 minutes before we left. Both cats like her and were all attentive, especially Bug.  You would think not because my friend has a dog and her clothes should carry doggy scent. ?

Ah my strange cats.

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Mandycat on January 26, 2014, 04:17:33 PM
I hope that Bug can get over this separation issue.  Although it must be distressing to DH to deal with it, Bug will survive it and learn that you WILL return.  It is sort of the same thing that happens with babies and toddlers until they learn that the parent will return when they leave for short periods of time.  Siamese are VERY vocal, so I can see how she might have expressed her anxiety by complaining, VERY loudly to DH!  As long as she seemed fine when you returned, I guess you will just have to wait until she gets more used to you not being there for short periods of time.  Spartycat's idea is good to leave something with your scent so that she doesn't feel abandoned.

Those box pics are so cute.

I second suggestion of leaving something that smells like you with her when you go out.

Talking may help also. I am not sure how much my Mitzie understands, but I talk to her as if she can understand how long I will be away and it seems to help. She is still all over me when I am at home, I even have to carry her around in a sling otherwise I can;t do anything.

April 1st..the girls "official" 4th birthday! I will try to get some new pics posted here.
The other day Bug did her "open the upper kitchen cabinet door" trick. She doesn't try to jump up inside when the space is packed with food, just stands on her tippy toes and looks, but this time Smokey saw her open the door and she came over and proceeded to jump in . Trouble is, there was no room for her in a packed cupboard and boxes of oatmeal, cans of fruit, etc fell all over the counter. Both girls ran from the noise, wonder if they learned a lesson?  :P
Later on I got love and kisses from both of them... ;D

Thank you everyone, the girls had a good time. I tried to get new closeups...
Smokey's right ear has an almost-healed "booboo"..I think she got nicked play-brawling. When she hears certain sounds her ears go out like, well. an owl's. In the last pic, Smoke got the front window first so Bug just decided to plop down on her as a pillow.

I finally caught Princess Bugaboo in the act of breaking into the kitchen cabinet - of course this is when kitchen is in mess mode and my hands not steady on camera, but this is what she does:

This is so obviously your fault ! Poor Princess Bugaboo is wasting away & there are no self serve snacks available at her level . You really need to do a better job arranging the way you put away the pet food  ;).

Smokey did a number on my nerves this afternoon. There is a door from the kitchen to a small hall with another door then stairs going down cellar.
I was doing a wash and opened the kitchen door to go downstairs to put the clothes in the dryer..The door to the cellar stairs was open. In all the years we've had the girls they never saw an open cellar door, just a hall.

Smokey barreled past me - saw the open stairs - dashed down there as fast as she could run,  then as soon as she got into the cellar she stopped, walked crouched, all the while screaming loudly like a siren going off!  I ran down the stairs, grabbed a shaking, tail puffed, sirening cat and got her upstairs where I wiped the traces of mildy moldy creepy basement off her paws.
My guess: She knew what stairs were (first timers always hesitate?). Maybe she thought they were the stairs she remembered from somewhere?  She got a nasty damp surprise when she found herself in a strange place and did that loud piercing scream of sheer terror. Our niece who originally rescued her from the parking lot did not have stairs, so I wonder where this all came from. If I ever see an animal communicator, I will have quite a few questions!
Shortly after her impromptu opera solo ,she ate her whole dinner no prob. Weird cat!

Poor Smokey - poor you!  You do have to wonder what caused such a weird reaction from her!  I can imagine that it shook you up quite a bit, and it sounds like she settled down more quickly than you did!   :-\   Cats!!   ::)

I think her curiosity took over, so she went running down, but then realized she was in a scary place! (I'll bet being a cellar, it smelled funny to her.) I'm glad she took it in stride afterwards, though, and ate her dinner as though nothing much had happened.  Now, your nerves may have taken a little longer to settle down!

Don't you love the way they like to keep us on our toes with occassional unpredicatable behaviours!

My cellar is tanked and tiled so a nice dry space - nevertheless they don't get down there very often as I keep the door which is in the dining area bolted (the cellar has a skylight to the front of the house so this is a security precaution).  There not too much except my junk, gardening stuff, decorating stuff etc down there and no real interest for felines - But Midi always rushes down when I open it to go to the washing m/c - and yells continually the whole time he's down there....

Little Miss Smokey nearly gave me another heart attack...I'm sitting in the dining room last night talking on the phone..and I hear pain-filled awful screams. It was Smokey who got up on a shelf and somehow reached up by a curtain rod and got her claw stuck in something. Hard to grab a cat from a height of 5 feet, no leverage and my arms don't have a lot of strength. It didn't help that she was in a panic either. Anyhow I finally unstuck her and checked her little paws. They looked fine but something must have hurt as she was licking her paw for a short while after. By the time DH heard my call for help...I was already getting her down from her...adventure.. :P

Again...she's ok...but Mummy is a wreck.  :P

Oreo gets stuck in things all the time ! I can't trim his claws unless he is sedated  :(. The vet can just do it with no problem , he just sits there for him .

Meowli, I was reading over some your old posts, it seems like Miss Smokey has to give you a scare on average about once a month.   :D ;)  I suspect she thinks she isnt living up to things if she doesnt keep up with her monthly ritual.  But maybe you are at least off the hook for the rest of March....then comes April.   :D

Sophers nabbed at my sweatpant as I walked by the other day....she then got caught and proceeded to get mad at me over it all.  Yeah, like I was the one that caused her claw to get stuck.  DH had to come unhook her before she really got mad, she was about to nail me good...over her mistake.  Kids!  ::)

Love the picture of the girls on your hubby's socks...they look very content.....and sort of possessive over them.   :D

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey
Post by: Meowli on March 16, 2015, 01:08:22 PM
You are right, Sandi, Smokey does like to scare me...she must be bored sometimes! Poor you for catching the blame for Sophers getting snagged-of course it WAS your sweatshirt... ;D I hope she has calmed down now and forgotten about the whole incident!
They just love the radiators...especially when we put clothes on them to dry.
Thanks everyone on the claw suggestions. The other day I hunted all over the house for the nail cutter, will have to get a new one..and then hope I can sneak up on my darlings when they are resting...

Thanks everyone! The girls have matured a lot...but still act like a couple of kittens sometimes, getting into mischief. And  they still run around the house and chase each other on occasion. Bug seems to initiate this routine, Smokey chases and tackles her - Bug loses the battle but then comes back for more.  ::)

The return of centipede, aka multilegged cthulhu-spawn:
This morning...my great furry hunters woke me up by stampeding me in their attempt to get at the windows next to the bed. A humongous centipede was on the wall above the curtains. Above ME. Above MY bed. Ceiling is high, I couldn't get the vac hose to reach that far. I hit at it with a longer stick, it started to move then disappeared between the ceiling and the narrow crown molding. Arrrgghhh!!!
Think I'm going to sleep tonight???

Title: Re: Bugaboo and Smokey

Post by: Meowli on May 28, 2015, 12:16:39 PM
I keep looking into the room....I am hoping it disappeared between the walls and has since made it's way to the nice cold damp environment in the cellar.
The thing was HUGE. Our old house is so un-airtight and drafty in every room that sealing it up may be impossible.

Insult to injury the girls were so intent on chasing their "prize" that they trampled over me!  :P

Well late yesterday I couldn't get Smokey to leave the area in back of the toilet...she was apparently in stalk mode..
We have a container back there in case of condensation from the tank, sure enough there was a giant centipede hiding under it, I managed to scoop it up, put it in the middle of the floor and kill it before anyone got bit.
I am so hoping that this is the same monster that was in the bedroom the other day and not one of his friends... :P

There is no screaming, no hissing, all I hear generally is the sound of them tumbling and bumping around on the floor. Bugaboo starts a lot of these "games" then Smokey who is much stronger body slams her..and pulls some fur out....but it must be ok, Bugaboo goes back for more later even though she looks like she can't figure out why it all happened. :P
Cats are strange sometimes.

And now they are 8. Still getting into mischief like a pair of kittens. Bugaboo knocked down a glass from the kitchen cabinet onto the floor and there was broken glass everywhere. Big chunks and tiny shards...Vacuumed twice then washed the floor then again with the vacuum. Nice late night stunt kitty! Smokey got into a shelf and got behind stuff...her rather ...plump butt ...knocked things off onto the floor. Thank goodness no glass this time - just important papers... :P But then I look at them sleeping near each other - they look so sweet and innocent....such loves... :-*

Thank you all...Well it didn't take long for another mischief adventure - not sure which one did it. I just left the computer and walked into the kitchen...eek. The little metal cabinet where I store clean dishtowels and stash extra plastic grocery bags - was opened wide and there were bags and dishtowels all over the FLOOR. Towels will go to the laundry and I don't think the bags were chewed on. But just the thought...Right now both girls are sleeping - they look so innocent... :P
