Chalet Nursery in Wilmette Il is the safest in the Chicagoland area. Only 2 of the foods they carry were even effected by the recall and by the time the news had hit the media all the food was already off their shelf! They also referred me to the Howl911.com website!

I trust Natural Pet Market in Wheaton, because no food that could potentially be harmful to your dog would ever be sold at this store. The owner thorougly researches these types of issues and informs her customers before they are even aware of it. Because of the recent scare regarding rice gluten, that product had been removed from their shelves. I strongly recommend this store.
Also, this store carries a wide supply of "organic foods" from trusted sources and many of these foods don't contain grains. The companies that make those foods are very health conscious, and I really trust the way they process their foods and where they obtain their food sources, especially at this time. Since the FDA is still in the testing stages with the tainted dog and cat food scare, it would be best to avoid commonly processed foods, and stick with the "whole" organics that are minimally processed - avoid the wheat and rice grains. Animals are meat eaters and flours and processed grains are not good for them anyway.

Liz's Pet Shop (on Chicago and Western) in Chicago carries none of the recalled brands, and the owner is very knowledgeable about food. They also have a lot of prepared frozen raw diets.
Also, Off the Leash, on Damen and ?? (in Ravenswood) in Chicago is another that does not carry any of the recalled brands.

there are two stores that do not nor have they carried any recalled pet food,
Pet Pals Natural Pet Market, located on rt 72 [Higgans rd ] in downtown west Dundee,
and Pawlickin located off rt 23, in Dekalb Il.
Both these stores carry a well rounded selection of healthy food for dogs and cats, canned, dry as well as raw frozen.
