Hi catmom5 - hope CJ is getting better soon.  I got to feel a little bit of what you are going through this past week.  Our IBD/pancreatitis cat got seriously ill - and I can't help but feel it was related to my trying to change his food.  He has been eating Royal Canin Weight Control 38 prescription dry food for years.  He never needed it but it was what we could get him to eat.  He wouldn't eat any of the prescription foods made for IBD/pancreatitis for any lenght of time.  I was trying to coax him over to canned and had just increased the quantity I was giving him - and he got very, very ill.  We thought we were going to loose him but after two days at the vets he turned the corner.  I guess I'm telling you this because I agree that you should listen to your vet at this time.

I hope things go well for your little cat.  I'll say a prayer for you all.

Jenny I found this article about pancreatitis. I recall that your kitty had a problem with this before along with the IBD. Also digestive enzymes are recommended to be added to their food daily and/or during transitioning foods. Especially for kitties that have had pancreatitis. http://marvistavet.com/html/pancreatitis__feline_.html

Hi Laurie. Thanks - I think I actually have that one printed out from a while back Smiley   He is really doing well lately - no sign that he was sick except that his tummy is shaved from the ultrasound.  Still it is going to be difficult to get him over to canned food 100 %.  All his blood work including his PLI is normal so that is good.  The PLI is technically outside the "normal" limit with his last test but the vet said it isn't high (i.e. 11 instead of 211) at all and she isn't concerned.  In fact some of the levels that are elevated for cats that have IBD more related to food allergy are below normal.

Thanks for the link - I'll be sure to reread it to make sure I haven't missed anything!

I'm needing prayers once again for CJ.  She has done well, but now her liver enzymes are high and we don't know what's going on.  She had an ultrasound last week and the only changes they attribute to scar tissue from her surgery in May.  However, she has bacteria in her urine and now the liver issues . . .  she will go in for a liver function profile on Wednesday.
I'm just so very frightened of losing her.  How can I be calm and reassuring to her when I feel so scared?  It's driving me crazy.
Please keep us in your prayers as we face yet another health challenge.  Through it all, CJ has continued to eat and drink normally, but clearly something is going on!
Thanks all

catmom5,

Of course, we will pray for CJ and you.  I am praying for all the furbabies on our forum, especially the ones that aren't feeling well right now.

That is very positive that she is eating and drinking normally.  That is major.   Please keep us updated.

Hi catmom5, Our prayers are with you and CJ and we're all hanging in there with you. Sometimes elevated liver enzymes are an indication of hyperthryoidism and not liver disease.  Did you get a T4 thyroid test done on her?  Even slightly over normal liver values for an elderly cat can cause these elevations.  Hyperthyroidism is on an increase in cats for unknown reasons, but it does have 100% cure available. Please keep us posted.

Here's something that might work ... Breathing exercises... breathe in, gather all the negative thoughts from every cell as you breathe in, collect them, then breathe out, let them fly out into the universe, and all the cat angels (plus Itchmo pet people) will catch them and transform them into healing light that reflects back down to your sick kitty... as woo-woo as this might sound, it could work!

Thank you all so much.  You are such a support to me when so many others simply don't get it.
CJ had a reaction to Clavamox on Saturday ~ hours of vomiting and then diarrhea.  I, obviously, will not be giving her another dose.  Since we see the MSU vet on Wednesday and since she's eating and drinking I'm trying to just wait and see. (THAT IS SO HARD TO DO!) My catboy, Jess, went after her this morning so she's not had a good few days. (He seems to know when she's not feeling well ~ or maybe because she growls at everyone else)
Still hoping that we get some good news on Wednesday.
Thanks again!  I'm proud to call you my friends.
