CJ could not have a better catmom!  You are so amazing in your devotion to helping her.  Hoping you can solve the constipation problem.

Hoping for the best with you and CJ.  I know you said she eats a bit of pumpkin for the constipation.  You could try adding a 1/2 spoonful to 1 spoonful in her wet food and see if that helps.  I also use 1/8 tsp psyllium husk powder in Peanut's wet food and this combo seems to help her out a lot.

Not sure the food change is going to work . . . she's still complaining when I try to touch her belly and seems to be drinking longer when she drinks, just hunkers down and drinks.
I've gotten her back on the lactulose twice a day and we'll see if that helps. I so want to get her off of dry and grains, but we've tried this all before and if she doesn't respond I'm going to go back to the prescription dry. I don't want to do anything that's going to create kidney problems, have to maintain the function she has for as long as we can.   Sad Sad Sad

catmom5- Maybe you could just cut down on the dry & add more canned or homemade ? If the change was slow & you don't totally remove the rx dry,it may work better.

Thanks. She doesn't eat the wet, just slurps up the liquid (I add about an equal amount of warm water). She had a good poop sometime during the night, didn't hear the howling so it must have been more comfortable for her to go. I will need to back off on the Core since it is very high phosphorus and may need to keep her on the low res and try to increase the wet. I wish that she would eat homemade, but other than licking out the pasta with tomato sauce bowl I left out she's not a real people food cat.

Oh how I wish she could tell me, in words I can understand.

Thanks again for your concerns and suggestions. I feel like such a worrier so often. You all probably get tired of reading about our food problems.

Blessings

catmom5- Thats what we are all here for,to listen & give support in hard times. It helps to run ideas by others, you don't feel so alone. If you didn't worry so much CJ would not be doing as well as she is.We are here whenever you need to talk.

catmom, sometimes it is better to let them eat whatever they want to and supplement with a phosphorus binder to keep the kidneys optimized.  If the phosphorus level gets above 6 kitties tend to not eat as much as they just feel lousy.  I've used Alternagel for the past year on two of mine because they won't eat prescription food on a regular basis.  Heck, they won't eat anything on a regular basis!  What they love today they cover tomorrow.  Please don't feel like we're tired of your "food problems".  I think most of us are in the same boat.

I looked at my journal on Kitt'n and I was using Lactulose 3 times a day on her to keep the stools soft.  She also had enemas occassionally which worked well (even though she didn't think so....)   But please remember Kitt'n was 20+ years old and at some point in time things just can't work well anymore.

Continuing our prayers for CJ and for you.

I've been through problems myself in the past with cats that weren't eating well, and I think you should feel comfortable expressing whatever concerns you have. Continued purrs and prayers of support going out to you.

This is the infamous CJ. Thanks, Carol for making it easy to post the pictures. Now I just have to get some of the rest of them. This is kinda fun.

BTW CJ refused all food except for the Low Res so she's on that, stool softener and is a happy girl once again.

CJ is gorgeous. Some of her colors are a little bit like My Pretty Girl, tabby with some reddish areas here and there.

Thanks, she actually looks pretty tiger on one side and calico on the other. (I think it's the calico feistiness that has brought her this far . . .)

Oh, CJ is a beauty!  She reminds me a bit of my Phantom.

Keep up the good work, catmom5 and CJ!

I've only occasionally seen the combination of those two coat types on one cat. It's truly amazing when it happens, nature blending two beautiful patterns.
