I was greeted with massive amounts of vomited food this morning when I went in to feed Sassy this morning. Of course I called the vet clinic and took her in. They admitted her to do further bloodwork, xrays and possible ultrasound. If it is what they think it is, pyometra, she will be having her spay surgery hopefully tomorrow. They found a room just for Sassy and the kittens so they are with her as of right now. I am beyond furious that the original vet (not MSU) didn't give her something to deliver the retained placenta and wonder if that has caused this problem for her. Irregardless, she is where she needs to be right now and is going to be treated for whatever it is that's going on. And now, as I once again ask for prayers for Sassy and the kittens, I thank you for all of your support. Waiting for a phone call to tell me what they have found out and what the next step is. In my "spare time" I'm going to scrub her room down, ready for her when she comes home. The vets at MSU were enchanted with the kittens so they will likely get some TLC while there, too (along with their first dose of worm medicine). And I am looking for a mobile vet who won't do all the things my former vet has done, or not done. Most important are the prayers for my girl. She has had sooo much to deal with. Bless her heart, and she has done such a wonderful job with her babies. Last night Bubba decided that I might be fun to chew on. I just said "ouch" and Sassy took him right down and let him know that wasn't okay. Will keep you posted as I am able. catmom 11

I am saddened to hear that Sassy is again (or still) ill. I will keep her and the kittens in my prayers. If it had not been for you, she would have been out there suffering all this on her own. I am convinced that neither the kittens nor Sassy would have made it without you.
Hoping that surgery won't be necessary yet, but glad that she is in good hands.
{{{hugs}}} to you, and purrs to the kittens and Sassy.

Sending prayers and positive thoughts for you,Sassy and the kittens. At least if they need to do the spay, the kittens are old enough to eat and be weaned if necessary. Thank God you found her, they would never have survived outside on their own ! With any luck some of the MSU staff will want to adopt kittens too.

Oh I am sorry to hear this news about Sassy! I hope she is OK. I was wondering and Im sure its not related but I remember I think you said you were recently feeding her Avoderm wet food? I remember our KiKi having really bad vomiting and diahrrea after eating that food....I hope she is OK and its something simple. She has had such a rough time, I too dont even want to think about what would have happened to her if she had been out there all on her own to have the kittens...it would not have been good. Thank god she has you Catmom! I just know she will be OK with all the care and love you have been giving her.

Sending prayers and good thoughts to Sassy, kits, and you, catmom. I think that what others have said is right, you have definitely saved the lives of Sassy and her kittens. Hopefully this will resolve all her problems.

Will be praying for Sassy, babies and you, Catmom. Hope this resolves Sassy's health problems once and for all. I also hope you can take a moment out for yourself, you've done a wonderful job and deserve a quick break

I am so sad to hear this. I hope that it turns out to be something else so that she doesn't have to be spayed just yet. The babies still need her even though they are learning to eat on their own. It is always better to wean naturally at the right time. But, that said, the most important thing right now is Sassy's health and welfare, and I am saying lots and lots of prayers that she will be okay through all of this. Looking forward to an update, and hoping it will be good news.

Oh no! Poor Sassy, she has had so many problems. I'm hoping it's something simple like the new food. Prayers and positive thoughts for Sassy, kits and catmom.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear Sassy is having such trouble! Poor girl! I hope everything goes well tomorrow. Maybe she won't need the surgery after all. How traumatic for all of you! You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I guess I am just trying to hang onto hope in regard to Sassy's problem, so I research Pyometra in the Merck Veterinary Manual and what I found doesn't seem to fit Sassy's situation. You can read about it here:
http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp?cfile=htm/bc/112009.htm
There is another condition that is possible because it IS a condition following birth of kittens, but I'm also skeptical as well that this describes her situation, although it seems more plausible. This condition is called Acute Metritis.
http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp?cfile=htm/bc/112007.htm
The vets at MSU seemed to be very good, so I guess we have to put our faith in them to come up with the right diagnosis.
I hope that they find that it is just a change in her food. Maybe the Avoderm was too rich, or maybe the change was made too quickly. This is not a cat who was used to really good food while she was living outside, so she might be more sensitive to those changes. We have talked over and over again on these forums about problems when dogs and cats are transitioned too quickly to new foods.
cm, You have done such a wonderful job with Sassy and the kittens and I hope that this is just going to be a minor bump in the road for you. Still praying and hoping for good news.
