And I'd like to add my prayers and good wished for Rufus too.  Angel Vet seems to know her stuff, and I hope she can help.

We saw the vet this morning and tons of blood has been taken.
We are looking for copper toxicosis.
The lab seems to feel this is a good thing to look at, especially because both foods that he ate tested very high in copper.
Excess copper needs to be removed from the body.

Stay tuned, the test takes quite awhile............................

Gee willikers already. Now you have to have a test for high copper levels? Is this the next canary in the coal mine going to or is already making animals sick slowly til the accumulated amount is too much for their little systems to handle and they become sick from it?

Saying a prayer that Rufus is able to recover from this if the tests prove copper is overloaded in the food which he eats.

Sending prayers for Rufus and hopes for a treatment plan once you have the test results.

Yay Angel vet, you go girl!  I am so pleased she is looking into all possibilities for poor Rufus, its obvious that whatever is ailing him is not a normal type condition so its great that your vet is being open-minded and searching for all possibilities.  Is he feeling any better the last couple of days?

Peg for the life of me I cannot remember what the food is you are refering to.  Can you please PM me the food, you are talking about.  Cannot remember if I was using it also.  many prayers coming your way for big boy Rufus.

To answer your question from earlier in a different thread poop ing out of the box is so much more acceptable than piddling IMO.

I'm praying the latest test will be productive since at least it sounds like there is treatment that can be done to help Rufus.

Sure do hope Angel vet gets to the bottom of this problem for Rufus and give you a treatment plan for him.  Will be praying for him and praying that he is improving some in the meantime while you wait for results of all his tests.  Did the vet give you any estimates on how long it can take to get the results back?

Could take as long as 2 weeks.
In the meanwhile, he is eating straight home cooked, as are they all and that seems to be helping dramatically,
Any canned, and only canned is to be fed per vet, is to be free of supplemental copper and other heavy metals.  My eyes hurt from reading so many labels Roll Eyes

YIKES!!!!!   Two weeks seems like FOREVER when you have sick babies on your hands.  I feel for you.  I am sure glad the homemade diet is working in the meantime.  I guess when they're already copper overloaded ANY amount can cause serious problems.  Will keep you in my prayers.  Let us know when you get any of the labs back.

I am so relieved that you have found Angel Vet!! Hate to think what a lot of others would have done ~ antibiotics for a uti, likely!! I'm hoping you will share what he was eating so we can all avoid having similar problems. This goes beyond belief that now we have to worry about something else that is harmful to our pets.

Will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Hope the home cooking makes a difference very soon. Poor Rufus has had so much to deal with. And poor Peg for having to go through all this in addition to everything else.

Hoping Rufus improves so much from the home cooking that he will not need any type of meds to heal him and the home cooking will do the trick.

I really hope you can get to the bottom of this, for Rufus and all of us too! If it's a problem with the food - gah! I don't think I can cope with anymore food worries. I cooked up a batch of food for Thunder tonight because I'm getting more paranoid everyday! Get better soon, Rufus!

Peg,

I hope Rufus improves on your home cooking.  {{{hugs}}}

I hope when you have a chance you can share with us (even if it is privately) what food had the high cooper.  This is scary as I know you were feeding some of the foods I feed.  Don't know which ones you are referring to.
