Glad Whitney is home & doing well ! When I was doing subq with Patches it was always an uneven lump down 1 leg. I always held the plastic also for stability. I would just go towards the other side the next day to even it out. When she went to twice a day I went right in the am & left for pm.I guess if you went slower ,it would be easier to distribute it more evenly.

lesliek makes a good point.  You don't want to keep sticking her in the exact same place because it will get sore and hurt her.   I try to alternate between going "left" "right" and "center"  just so I'm not piercing the skin in the exact same location everytime.

ShellysMom, I'm so glad Whitney is home. Bet she slept like crazy
once she realized she was home. Hospitals, even cool ones like in the
pix, are not places to relax.
Sounds like you're doing good on the fluids. Don't worry about the down
the leg thing. Just whatever you and Whitney are comfortable with, as
long as the fluids go in is good. Do follow advice to alternate needle sticks
so it's not the same place every time. Imagine how you'd feel if it were you.
Keep up the good work, and Whitney will be just fine, and so much happier
at home with her family.

Hi Itchmo,
This is a long overdue update...lots has happened in Whitney's world.
She had started having bladder problems again about 2 weeks post treatment.  We took her into our regular vet who did a culture, and ultrasound.  The culture was negative, but the ultrasound showed her bladder wall is thickened, left kidney undersized (and probably not functioning), and the right kidney looked okay.
They diagnosed her with cystitis, and prescribed an anti-depressant!!  Apparently, cystitis is caused by stress….Considering what she was going through, this was not a big surprise.  We were still administering sub-q fluids, which was very unpopular.
Well chasing the old girl around the house to get a half pill prescription down her throat did not help the stress situation.  If we were successful she would was zoned out for the day.  If the half pill got stuck in her throat, she would drool and vomit.  Only took us a week to figure out if we left the cat alone, she was okay.  We finished up the sub-q about the same time…so Whitney was very happy.
She had her 1 month post treatment check about a month ago.  Her thyroid numbers are back in the normal range, and our vet checked her BUN (very slight elevation) and creatinine (normal) to make sure her kidney function is adequate.  She is good “for her age”.  She has put on a couple of pounds, doesn’t throw up nearly as much, and is not so restless anymore.
She will go back to have her numbers checked again in April.
Whitney turned 16 on October 31st, and we’re looking forward to having her around for a while longer.  Hopefully a long while

Glad to hear your kitty is improving and that the treatment is working. Sorry about the cystitis though. That is hard to deal with since you can't force a cat to relax. Hopefully as she feels better she won't be as stressed and the cystitis will go away.

Yeah, Whitney, way to go kitty girl!  Glad the worst of her treatments are done for now, and I hope her recheck shows good things.

Sounds like overall Whitney is doing well - glad to hear that - except for the cystitis episode, which will probably resolve.  Hope she continues to do well and her next tests will be good!

Thanks for the update!  I'm happy to hear that Whitney is doing well for her age, and that the treatment worked well!  I too have heard of cystitis caused by stress, so the prescription of an antidepressant does not sound out of line.  As Ned said, you can't teach a cat relaxation skills!

Very good news about Whitney and her I131 treatment, I hope the cystitis will calm down as things settle down in her world now.
