Benji is in the hospital with congestive heart failure due to cardiomyopathy - we had no idea since he never in his six years showed any signs and no vet ever heard a murmur.  He is the little darling in the photo there watching a Mewvie DVD.

He has FLUTD and had gone into the vet for an obstruction on Monday - the first he ever had.  All other flare-ups he's ever had were successfully treated with an antispasmodic and lasted 3-5 days.

He had a catheter inserted under anesthesia and his bladder flushed.  I thought I would be picking him up today to go home.  I get to the vet and find he can hardly breathe.  I'm very afraid I'm going to lose him.  They say if they call me through the night it will be to ask to put him down.  I can't believe this is happening.

Everyone please hope and pray that he'll be okay.

Thank you.

Sending prayers and positive thoughts for you and Benji. We just had this happen with our chihuahua Remy, his congestive heart failure is due to chronic valve disease. Has your vet contacted a cardiologist ? Remy is stable right now, but was hospitalized and has had his meds adjusted twice so far. There are many places to get information on this for cats and dogs ,please feel free to pm me if you want any of them. Lighting a candle for you both.

My heart goes out to you, Sofia.  Poor little Benji.  This must indeed have been a great shock, to find out about the heart problems in such a way.  Sending many prayers and good thoughts for you and Benji.  He is in a good place to get the care he needs.

Oh, Sofia, this is terrible. Often, cardiomyopathy is undiagnosed because there aren't any outward symptoms and no murmur. They suddenly go into congestive heart failure and only then, does anyone find out they had the condition. They will be giving him lasix to get the fluid off and hopefully, he will respond well to the treatment. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Benji.
