Great news, OF, best to you and KD!  What diet do you have her on now?  It would be interesting to know what works so well for you.

Thanks all!

Nabiya: She's eating prescription Medi-Cal reduced protein canned. I'm not thrilled about it, but it's less horrible than Hill's k/d or some of the other alternatives.  Undecided  I'm convinced it's the fluids more than anything that has made the difference.

Had a pleasant surprise at the vet today.

KD went in for a checkup and more bloodwork. Don't know the results on that yet, but the vet said she looks great.

Thing is, she would have been due for her shots in April had she not gotten sick, and the office staff have been bugging me about that for a couple of months. I told them I'd discuss it with the vet at her bloodwork appointment - as I really don't want to give any more shots to a well-vaccinated 14 year old indoor cat with kidney problems. So I went in today, expecting a big argument with the vet, and he surprised me by beating me to the punch. He said she's got tons of immunity from years of booster shots, that she basically has no chance of getting rabies even if a rabid bat flew in the window and bit her, and that if it was his cat he wouldn't vaccinate her again. Was I ever glad to hear that! When I went to pay the bill, the receptionist told me she was taking all the vaccination reminders off the file, so it won't be an issue again.  Smiley

Whew OrangeFuzz........ what great news. Cheesy
I think the vets are finally getting the message that maybe too many vaccines are just not so necessary.  I am so happy that he saved you from the battle by beating you to the punch. Smiley

I remember asking my vet why the dosage is the same for a 5lb Yorkie and a 185lb Rotty.  His response was, "because that's the way it is."

Wishing you the very best in your blood results for KD.... :DShe is one lucky little girl to have you for a pet parent.
Give her a head kiss from me and the pack Grin

Yay!!! First, its great to hear that KD looked well on the physicals (will cross all paws that bloodwork will retunr A-OK too.. I know how scary these blood works are!)...  Second, good on your vet that he is not pushing the "shot" anymore (yeh - I used to get those yearly reminders which I studiously ignored  Cheesy).

Hey Orange Fuzzball... any chance of a pic of KD?  I've searched the Den and realized we have no picture of the famous rascal!

I'm glad KD did so well at the vet today, and I'm hoping the bloodwork turns out good, too.

My old (former) vet clinic went to online reminders, then I went and changed email addresses and forgot (really) to update them. So I"m not getting any postcards anymore.  Wink

 Grin Grin Grin

Lots of good news here! Wonder why your vet changed his mind about vaccinations . . . maybe the word is getting out there.

I'm happy for KD's good checkup, and hoping that the blood work will look good too.  It does seem that the vets are developing a consensus among themselves about those vaccinations, which is a good, good thing.  My vet is on that page too with my 10-and-over cats, and I wouldn't be surprised if by the time my 2-year-old cat is that age, the laws may finally change.

Keep up the good work, KD and OF!
