Thanks to everyone!!  My cats name is scooter he is 6.  On May 22, 2008 I was on the computer, scooter was on a kitty condo looking out the window near me, I heard this noice near the curtain, couldn't see anything and when I went over there scooter was having a seizure I freak out picked him up and carried him saying please don't die, he did come out of it and I immediately took him to the nearest Vet.  By that time he seemed fine they did some normal tests and gave me some antibotics and said watch him if he has another one take him to see a specialist.  I still felt uneasy I wanted to know what caused it since he is only 6, he seemed okay Friday during the day, that night when I went to bed (scooter always sleeps on my pillow behind my head) everything seemed fine I awoke with this noise behind me it was scooter having another seizure I read more about it so I moved him to the middle of my bed so he wouldn't hurt himself and just talked to him, he recovered, composed himself and went in the kitchen and ate.  (I thought to myself how can you eat my stomach is in knots)  I called the Vet they directed me to vet hospital nearby it is called Oakland Veterinary Referral Services, Bloomfield, Michigan.  I took scooter there, they check him out he seemed okay again, they have many specialist on staff and the neurologist would be in later that day.  They kept scooter, later that day I had an appointment with the neurologist he spent an hour with me, he was very nice went over all possiblilites for his seizures.  We decided to do more testing, blood and spinal tap both came back fine.  The only thing left was a CT scan but, we have a problem scooter has a substanial heart murmor and he is not sure that he would survive the CT.  He decided to put scooter on Phenobarbital twice a day and have him come back for a check up in 12 days.  Scooter seemed to be getting back to normal even his check-up was good until this weekend.  I have been noticing he is having trouble with jumping onto the counter his left back leg seems to lag, he has been leaning to his one side while walking, not eating very well and just not himself, he loves to play with this wand I have, I brought it out the other day, he used to jump waist high now he tries to jump and falls on the one side.  He has a vet appointment tomorrow with the neurologist all the indications look like a tumor.  I think he will probably recommend a cardiologist to see if he can substain a CT scan or maybe some medication for the inflammation.  I am struggling with all of this, I just don't know what to do.  Thanks to anyone that can help.

I am so, so sorry about what happened to your kitty, and can imagine how scary it must be.  I don't know much about brain tumors in cats, but want to send my thoughts and prayers, too.

Since kitty has a murmur, has anyone considered the possibility that it might be Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and that the leg weakness might be caused by a blood clot that has lodged somewhere?  A cardiologist consult would be a good idea to rule this out also.  Hoping it is not a brain tumor, as at least the HCM can be controlled with medications.  Good luck with your appt. and let us know the result.  Will keep you and Scooter in my prayers.

I live in Lansing and take my cats to the teaching hospital at MSU. They have wonderful facilities, staff and resources and have saved my cat, CJ's, life more than once. I wouldn't hesitate to ask for a referral there if you want another opinion. I know how hard this is and how much it hurts when they are having seizures or weakness.

I lost a catgirl to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She threw a blood clot when she was just 7. Now I have two more with heart disease, and they are monitored by a wonderful cardiologist at MSU and are doing fine. CJ went into kidney failure, then had bacterial peritonitis with surgery for that, IBD and liver disease. By all rights she shouldn't even be with me today, but she's a happy, sassy 12 year old calico catgirl.

Please know that we're here for you. Let us know how Scooter is doing and what you find out. Again, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend MSU!

Blessings

jpsoccer:  My heart goes out to you --- I know you must be feeling tormented with all of what's been happening to Scooter.  Is a CT scan the only way to see brain tumor?  Can an X-ray do the job?  NedF has also had recent experience in brain tumor diagnosis - I think his kitty just had an X-ray - not sure of this.  But you can check his experience with the seizures, the diagnosis and the present treatment protocol of his cat, Thunder in the "I Can't Cope" thread onder "Help With My Sick Pet".  Thunder is 19 yrs old and is still looking mighty good despite all her health issues...

Oh I am so sorry to hear that Scooter is having seizures.  My Socks has a heart murmur as well but not too bad, I assume Scooter has had an heart echo?  I agree he should see a cardiologist if his heart is not strong enought to be put under anestesia that would not allow the ct scan.   My heart is breaking for you everyone here knows how hard it is to have a sick furkid.

Please let us know how the next appointment goes.  When Socks saw the neuro he could feel her tumor but it was very big, the size of a golf ball.  Cats are remarkable creatures when she came home the day after surgery I wasn't sure she knew me but she knew where her favorite spot was.

I hope you get some answers we will all be pulling for you.

Hi All I just found this site today and was very happy to see Ranger's story and the good outcome.  My Kitty, 14 years old, was diagnosed this week with a meningioma brain tumor.  She had an MRI on Monday and will have surgery tomorrow morning.  Kitty also has a heart murmur and because of that had echocardiogram last november.  There was no discussion that she would not be able to handle to MRI.  They did do some radiographs of her abdomen and chest before the MRI and I think this is probably routine to see if the heart is in decent shape and if there are any other tumors which contributed to the brain tumor.  Kitty is at an fantastic facility which is about 2 hours from our home,  called Redbank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, NJ and her neurologist came very highly recommended to us.  So we feel that she is in the best hands possible.

I think my best advice to Judy at this point is to ask a million questions and read as much material as you can get your hands on.  I am very new at this brain tumor stuff too but i'm getting as quick an education so i can make decisions that I'm comfortable with.

I'll be happy to share any info with you as we go along.  Right now, just praying that Kitty's surgery will go smoothly and asking you all to keep a good thought for her.
Thanks,  Val

val said a prayer surgery went well and you'll have Kitty home soon. They heal so much better there, less stress.

Hi all,
I've been reading your messages for a couple of weeks now and wanted to thank you all because you have helped me unknowingly.  My kitty-Mr. Brown- had a brain tumor or you can say after a month of testing, diagnosing it was finally determined to be a brain tumor.  At first, he had such a quick mild seizure, nobody could determine what exactly was going on.  My vet at first thought he may have been having cardiac problems, but through numerous testing and trips to different specialist and as his condition continued to rapidly deteriorate it was determined to be a brain tumor.  Once she was able to witness an attack, she immediately suspected a brain tumor and recommended to have him euthanized.  I just couldn't do so at the time and that's when I did stumble accross this site.  I appreciate the positives and the support you have given to your fellow pet lovers and their animals. After reading through the posts and trying to educate myself as much as possible through the internet, I sought out more specialists.  I had a ct scan done and spoke to the onocologist and neurologist yesterday.  I wish my story had a happier ending, but regrettably, it does not.  Unfortunately, they did not have the news I had hoped for and their recommendation was that I euthanize him and end his suffering.  It was one of the worst days of my life, I lost my dear baby of thirteen years yesterday and my life will never be the same without him.  However, what I would like to thank you all for is that had I not read you posts and seen some of the good outcomes that do sometimes happen, I would have not been so diligent and just trusted my regular vet and put him down a lot sooner BUT would have always had to live with the "what ifs" that would have always haunted me.  At least this way I know in my heart I made the kindest and best decision I could have and would not have beaten myself up for years to come that I didn't make sure every possible avenue had been exhausted.  I know he is in a much better place right now, kitty heaven, but the selfish side of me misses him so very much and I'm devastated and lost without him.  So thank you for making me not give up too soon and making sure that I did everything humanly possible to help my dear baby.
I'm sorry I am rambling on, but it's just so hard right now and I'm certain there are numerous typos I should apologize for, but it is hard seeing what I am typing through the tears.

Welcome to Itchmo tesla. I am so sorry that you have lost your dearest friend. As I read through your post, I, too, was reading through tears. I had to let my Toby go the same way, as he had a brain tumor. Unfortunatly, I did not have Itchmo to learn from as it was a number of years ago. I miss him so much.
