Well, the vet was not too happy to hear of Thunder's headache symptoms. We talked about different pain meds and decided to up the buprenex when she shows signs of pain. As for the urinary problem, they did a urine culture and we'll know in a day or so whether it's a bacterial infection or cystitis. If it's cystitis it could be caused by stress from her underlying medical problems. Thunder did not have any pee problems yesterday but of course after we got home from the vet today, she immediately started the squat-dribble-run-squat-dribble routine again. I'm wondering if the stress of the vet visit caused her to flare up. She's so unhappy right now and there isn't anything I can do to make her feel better. I already gave her some pain medicine and I can't give it again until 11:30pm (it's 9PM now). Poor kitty.

Poor little sweet old kitty.  I wonder if her symptoms are more from the meds making her dizzy than pain?  It's so hard to know what they are feeling, and what we should do to help them.  I do hope she still has some good days left to spend with you Ned.  Prayers to the two of you, and hoping tomorrow will be a better day.

Ned- So sorry that Thunder is having such a rough time. Hopefully things will calm down tomorrow without the added stress of the vet visit.

Oh Ned, poor Thunder and you too!  I know how hard it must be to not be able to help her but like Leslie said,  maybe tomorrow, after she has had a chance to calm down, that will calm down too.  I wish there was something I could do to help which I know there isnt.  Just know you and Thunder are in my thoughts daily!      Kiss to Thunder

so sorry to hear Thunder is not doing too good... I really beleive that stress brings about all sorts of symptoms in cats... I think the best thing to do right nowis to give Thunder plenty of calm and peace and quiet... and good food!  Do you have stuff like Rescue Remedy?  A drop rubbed on each ear works wonders on my cats and cushions them against stress situations... weak camomille tea also does wonders in soothing and calming a stressed kitty --- I give 3-4mls via syringe straight into the mouth... never fails to relax my cats and make them sleepy.

I'm glad Kaffe mentioned the calming remedy, it reminded me of the relationship between stress and feline cystitis being discussed before, Ned.

If you look at post #119, Maincoonpeg describes a remedy from Vetri-Science she used.  Hope any of these suggestions help if Thunder has a stress-related problem.  If you could beat that, I'm hoping you can have more quality time together.

NedF it does sound like Thunder is very stressed from going to the vet.  I hope she is feeling better today it's so hard to tell how cats are really feeling. I will keep my fingers crossed for you both.

Well, your positive thoughts must have worked because Thunder is doing much better today! She finally settled down last night at about 11pm - poor kitty was exhausted pacing from one catbox to the other. She fell asleep at my feet while I was watching Jay Leno. As far as I can tell, she slept all night and did not have any more pee problems. She still seems a little agitated and nervous today. I gave her a little catnip which seemed to cheer her up. I sat on the floor with her and petted her for a while and she purred for at least an hour. Then she took a nap with her catnip mouse as a pillow. She seems much happier today!

My vet called me to let me know that the urine culture had bacteria growing in it, so Thunder is on Baytril for the next two weeks. I sure hope this clears it up. I'd be nice to have one less thing to worry about!

kaffe, I don't have any rescue remedy but I do have some chamomile tea so I may try that next time she's stressed.

Oh yay NedF!!!!  Hurray!  I am so glad to hear Thunder is doing better, the news made my evening.  You go Thunder.  I bet you are relieved, once again, Ned.  Whew, what a roller coaster ride.

Ned, I was just thinking of when our Sophers was sick, I would put a heating pad under some blankets in her bed and put her on that and have it on low setting.  She sure did like it and it seemed to really calm her down and make her more relaxed.  It might be something you could try for Thunder.  Just make sure its low setting under some blankets so Thunder doesnt get too hot and dont leave it on for very long.  I just turned it on for a short while and turned it off and you know how kitties are, they continue to attract that heat on their fur for quite awhile afterwards.  Anyhow just a thought I had.
