Harry with the "Golden Bone" 6/29/05--4/24/08

As some of you know that have been reading my posts I have a 2 year old golden retriever named Harry (Sir Harrison II is his "real name") who has been fighting a high grade sarcoma since last Thanksgiving.  It was during his chemo and radiation when my two kitties got ARF from their food and it turned out to be a distraction from the seriousness of Harry's illness.  The last couple of weeks I have been troubled by something I can't quite put my finger on, but Harry didn't seem himself.  I am afraid that what I call his "smart bump" on his head has become larger (his sarcoma was right behind this) and even though he was given one year, I can't bring myself to realize this may be the beginning of the end.  His oncologist had said that if it came back there would be no treatment done as it would not help.  His biopsy result came as a surprise to his regular vet and us as most sarcomas can just be removed but this was atypical and very aggressive with a high mitotic rate.  I was hoping that with all the health issues with my beloved animals that maybe somehow this was going to end better.  Harry and his siter Lucy were adopted by us to help heal our heart over the loss 6 weeks earlier of our beloved Barkley who passed after fighting cancer for 4 weeks.  We just aren't ready to have this pain again and it is hard to talk about it so this is why I have to post this.  Harry is also the quirkiest pup I've ever seen in the fact that he will not swim, is afraid of bird feathers and hates to fetch!!!
Just needed to type for a while.............
Thanks for listening.

Thanks for the kind words.  I think I was a little "hormonal" when I wrote that.  I know people here understand the pain of an ill pet so I just unloaded!!  My husband and I will be taking Harry next Wednesday back to his oncologist in Mass just to see what is expected ... knowing it is back versus wondering if it's back-- we think will make it easier as we will do comfort measures only (at recommendation of the oncologist when and if it came back).  Again, thank you and sorry to "make it about my Harry".... Dear Carol:
I know what you are going through. All this is about Harry and all the
Harry's that have probably gotten here through consuming poor quality
food throughout their lives. Please keep us posted on Harry's condition.
Love and prayers to you and your family --

I am sorry to hear about your worries and am hoping that you will get better news than you are fearing you will get!

I have a great update on Harry. He saw his oncologist today who aspirated the lump and she could not see any spindle cells only wbc's and she thinks that it is probably just a reaction from either a bite or unjury and just happens to be in the same area.  She said it would grow very fast as his tumor was a rapid growth one so we will just sit and watch (optimistically).  Maybe my pet worries are going to subside for a while! Grin  Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers sent my way..
