A friend on another forum, who posted here a while ago, needs some very serious prayers. She had pulled a lot of moms and kittens, as well as some compromised adult cats, from a NJ shelter that was going to do a mass euthanasia due to "remodeling". When she brought them home, she also brought home FIP. Lorri lost 5 cats to FIP almost 4 months ago, 4 rescues and one of her own. Knowing that the rest were not adoptable, she decided to keep them and rearrange her home and her life to provide these cats a safe, loving home. Yesterday she wrote that another of the babies has come down with FIP and another is sick, but not diagnosed yet. Lorri can use all the prayers and support we can offer her. She has had more than anyone can handle, but does what she can because of her love for and dedication to these cats. I cannot even imagine how devastating this must be for her. And I know the power of prayer . . . catmom5

The most powerful prayers I can offer are coming to your friend and her cats.
I have some suggestions that might help minimize the spread....it helped in my house when I had an FIP cat and 6 others who thankfully were unaffected.
I used separate plates for each cat, all small cheap paper plates. When food was gone, all plates went into a small grocery bag and out the door to the garbage pails. If I had to medicate anyone, I wore cheap disposable gloves and threw them out in the trash immediately after use. I also used paper litter. Small amout in each box emptied at the end of the day and boxes rinsed with a 1:10 mix of bleach and water. I also kept a small bucket of the same bleach water mix which I carried with me when I scooped the litter throughout the day.....I used a metal scoop.....it got a quick dunk after each use. And I know this is really hard, but the more litterboxes there are for the cats, the better.
God Bless your friend and I am praying for her, for the kitties, and for this to stop for them.

It is always so sad and devastating for a cat to come down with FIP - but to have it threaten one's whole family of cats is simply overwhelming. I too cannot imagine your friend's pain. I will pray for your friend and her kitties, Catmom5 and I do hope that she takes up the suggestion of Peg whose had some experience with FIP.

I can't imagine how one might feel to think of the possibility of losing all your cats to this horrible disease. I greatly admire Lorri for what she is doing for these kitties. Certainly will add her and her kitties to my daily prayers.

This is so very sad. I have to ask some questions though. Most all of us breeders, i'm and X now, get FIP once in a while. But She really needs to get on the FIP list and talk to Dr. Susan, can't remember last name. How does She know the cats have FIP? Are they dying or being put down because they are sick? I'm wondering because FIP is deadly, but the corona virus that causes FIP is not always deadly. And they might have the carona virus. I've just never heard of so many coming down with it and dying all at once. I've done a lot of studying on FIP. One thing that was said was very good. Get lots of litter boxes and empty them all the time. the virus is spread through oral, fecal contact. Please let Me know what the vet says about all this- all the cats dying at once.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. I do belong to an FIP group...I know all about this disease this is my second round of it this year. I lost 5 cats/kittens to it over the summer.
I have one confirmed case and one anemic cat right now. Please pray that the one with anemia doesn't have FIP and the one that does, I will probably have euthanized on monday to prevent her suffering. After watching 5 cats die this summer, I won't prolong her suffering just to have another week/month with her. This is a terrible disease about which so little is understood.
my furbabies could use all the good prayers coming their way. I don't know if I am up to burying another 5 cats/kittens this year.
