Can dogs get styes in their eyes?

(1/1)

BambisMom:
My dog seems to have a stye or maybe a bug bite on her upper eye lid.
I'm trying to put warm washclothes on it, but most of the time she won't let me.
Any advice is appreciated. :)

onlooker:
I don't know if this will help you, but my dog had a sty like pimple on his bottom eye lid.  I used cold on it & then applied a bit of Vit. E.  It cleared up without a trip to the Vet.  Good Luck!

ancona:
Yes, they do, should be cultured

I rushed to anwer the question.  I have seen dogs with styes, that turn into cysts, some are malignant or can be.  Mast cell, basal cell,  It is best to have it looked at,
many Vest that we deal with do have them biopsied.  Just to make sure  that is not a precancerous condition.

Styes can also be staph infections.

My 13 year old Kuvasz has had one for years. They should be checked by a vet and yes they can be removed by operation. His will get bigger and smaller, almost dry up and then return. If it isn't bothering them and the vet says it is OK, I would advise leaving it. Depends on the age of the dog and the risk with anaesthesia
