I'm glad to know about this. And feral-turned-diva Pretty Girl says I have to do everything she says on that date as it will be HER day.....

I hope that this day means someone somewhere is made aware of the plight of the millions of feral cats and takes some action!

Blessings and gratitude for those of you who are already doing something for these precious cats and kittens.

It's always in the back of my mind what could have happened to Sassy and her beautiful kittens . . . but she was way too smart to let that happen!

Thanks for reminding everyone, catmom5 and Spartycats.  I'll never forget Sassy and her babies and how you and Spartycats ensured a happy future for them.

We're also honoring feral cats and their rescuers on Itchmo Pet News, including some links to local activities.

October 16th is recognized as National Feral Cat Day, a day set aside to help feral cats.

Most of us have probably caught a fleeting glimpse of a feral cat now and again, a feline shape just on the edge of darkness. Do we just ignore them and hurry on with our busy lives, or do we try to help them to survive?

Many, many volunteers do work behind the scenes on a daily basis to maintain feral cat colonies, seeing they are trapped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their living areas.  But that is only the beginning.  These volunteers also commit to seeing feral cats have food, water, and shelter from harsh weather on a daily basis.  That is quite a commitment.  TNR groups are unsung heroes in my mind, and deserve our gratitude not only on this day, but every day.

See Alley Cat Allies' website for information on how you can help feral cats, their rescuers, and celebrate National Feral Cat Day.

This page has links to activities in many states. See if your state is listed and how you can get involved.

Hey, JM, any chance of including a link to "Red's feral shelter?" I provided it in one of the feral threads. Might be useful for those thinking about building one for winter.

My little babies, you'll always be in my heart. Mom will see you later. Look after each other, ok?

Bug,

You can follow my link to the blog and add it on as a comment to my article.  Sometimes comments get caught in the spam trap, but I'll let it out if it does.  Wink  Thank you!
