Thats scary Ned. After reading that I would only switch to them if you can crush them & put in the capsules. With the oil on them & a water chaser it should be ok.

I am not an expert in cats, but has anyone considered the use of apple cider vinegar for the UTI as a treatment?
It works well for humans, and there are many cases were it has worked for pets too. (It's worked well for me too.... )

Wow, Ned, thanks very, very much on the tablets.

My regular vet called this morning. We're going to try force feeding liquid doxy mixed in pet food followed by a water chaser.
Doxy is not readily absorbed in the presence of antacids (Q gets Pepcid AC) or the aluminum in phosphorous blockers.
Penicillins are out. So there's only doxycycline, gentamycin, and streptomycin here to even try with. All of it is risky for
my crf lady. I believe an unchecked UTI will kill her. So there we are I'm afraid.

Thank you for posting this site again. I had found it last year as a natural place to remedy a lot of things wrong with humans and pets as an alternative to drugs. Lots of info on there - thanks again.

JJ-
No problem! I love this site, and it has some invaluable info. I always find myself going there. I like that it gives reader feedback on remedies that worked for them. Apple Cider Vinegar seems to be the cure for just about everything!

JJ n Westiegirl, it is an interesting site. At some point, you have to pick a solution and go with
it. Solutions there are in homeopathy and vets. Too bad they don't get together too often
and find out which work best for all our pets.

The liquid doxycycline is not doable. IQ won't do it without frothing at the mouth as a flavored
liquid or mixed in food and force fed. So keep good thoughts; we've had to go to 50 mg capsules followed by
water chasers for the next 21 days, twice a day. Really could use best wishes here
for a very special orange cat lady who has been through a lot.

3cat, will keep up prayers and hopes and wishes for this treatment to be successful for IQ, and turn things towards recovery very fast.

The tablets should be OK if you syringe water afterwards.  I wonder if syringing some food then water would be even better since the food would get the pill down and buffer the tablet.  Not sure if this needs to be given on empty or full stomach.

Another option would be to put the liquid or tablets in empty gel caps, but someone may have already mentioned that.  I hope she tolerates it and it works.  Continued prayers for little Q.

3cat,
You have my sincere sympathy!   Wink  3 weeks of Clavamox twice a day for Mandy just about did us both in!  Anyone who has a cat who is easy to pill should count their blessings!   Cheesy  I will keep you in my prayers that the pilling goes well and that it cures her UTI so that things can get back to "normal".

3cat- Hoping the pills work ok and you can flush them down easily. You and Q both need a break and some good days with no new problems.

Let's hope the next 21 days goes by fast.  What a drag for both of you.  I'll be sending positive thoughts your way Kiss

I wish I had something to offer other than my prayers that you can figure out something to help IQ without all the problems. Those orange catladies are tough, though, so don't give up on her. (I feel the same about CJ after a round of treatments or when she runs under the bed when she sees me coming with a syringe . . . but it's all worth it when she's outside sunning herself on the sidewalk looking as if she doesn't have a care in the world.)
