LOL, leslie.  Does your DH do dishes?  Mine doesn't.   Tongue Tongue

If Elvis was a couple years younger, we would never be able to medicate or treat him.  As it is, if we do not do it correctly the first time, he will not tolerate a second attempt.  Would have to go the alkyhawl route, too!   Cheesy

SandiK, LOL!!  Just thinking about doing fluids make me quiver.  And we have done it before!  20+ years ago we had a kitty, Buffy, who had cardiomyopathy.  We gave her subQ's off and on for a couple of years.   JustMe, hang in there.  Sounds like you have a good partner for the job.

JustMe - Yes he will do dishes and pots and he loves to grill. I can't imagine him helping with fluids though. He does help with Troopers meds, baths and nails and ears. Trooper is too big for me to hold and do at the same time.

Maybe we can trade off.   Tongue Tongue Tongue  Mine doesn't grill often or cook, but instructs me how to.    Grin  He loves cats, dogs, squirrels, birds, toads, plays guitar, rides Harleys, and restores cars.  Doesn't like yard work.

On second thought, I think I'll keep him.   Grin

RIP Bones - my big, beautiful boy

Awwww, Just Me -- I thought maybe he'd be a good trade. My dh just told me the charred hot dogs he cooked today weren't burnt and inedible. Pretty sure Gordon Ramsay would have tossed him out of Hell's Kitchen. I think I'll be on my own if I have to do subqs for Katey. He won't even hold Pip for a tooth brushing.

Elvis got a little dehydrated again and his appetite was down.  My fault.  Yesterday, we gave him 60 mL of his fluids, and today he seems better.  He already ate 1-1/4 cans of Fancy Feast and some Wellness this morning.  I saw he was having a little trouble trying to poop last night.  He is arthritic.  Vet said we could go ahead and give him 60 mL of fluids every day for the next couple days.  I'm hoping that is okay.  His hydration seems a little better today.  He was supposed to get 120 mL twice a week, but we had only been doing 60 mL twice a week as he gets upset with restraining him longer for 2 syringefuls.  Vet was concerned that he was not getting enough fluids.  When we did his fluids Monday, I had a hard time pulling up enough skin on his scruff to inject.  Today, he seems better to me.

Guess I'm rambling on, needing some good thoughts and encouragement.  Elvis & Davey both have checkups next week, but we were going to bring Elvis in today if he hadn't improved.  He gets upset going to vet these days, so we try not to bring him if we can take care of him ourselves.  I always get nervous when a holiday weekend is coming and I have a pet who is under the weather.   Lips sealed

Poor Elvis. Hope he continues to perk up. The amount of Fancy Feast, plus the Wellness, eaten is a good sign. I can understand where you are coming from with not wanting to take him in unless you have to; I worry every time I have to take Scrapper in that the stress of it all will do him even more harm than what we are trying to fix.

I hear ya! We seem to have all our "emergencies" over weekends, long holiday weekends are "best"! Think we'll skip the Fourth this year!  Undecided

Have you considered doing 60 every other day for Elvis? That way he would only have to tolerate it for a short time and not everyday. Sounds like he needs more fluids and that it helps him feel well enough that his appetite perks up. I'd say that the Fancy Feast and Wellness is a good sign, too.

Prayers and candle glow coming to all of your furries, Just Me.

I'd say if you're playing "catch up" on the fluids for the next couple of days, just make sure he's absorbed the fluids from the previous day, before giving again.

When you go next week, maybe you could ask about something like 60-80 ml, 3 times a week.  I know there's more sticking, but maybe it will help keep Elvis on an even keel.

I'm glad he's eating today, and hope that continues!

Oh, I hope Elvis feels better soon.  It's a good sign that he's eating.  I will keep him in my thoughts Kiss

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of kitty emergencies when a holiday comes up! Roll Eyes

I know what you mean about holidays when you have a sick kid.  Lucky me my vet is a 24 hour emergency so I can always get help.  Hope Elvis continues to eat for you.   Kiss Kiss to Elvis

It always seems like everything bad happens on a holiday ! Its a good sign that he ate so much & the 3x a week fluids sounds like a good idea. Prayers and positive thoughts for a good holoiday weekend with improvement for Elvis.

I think Spartycats idea about the extra fluids is a good one.  Peanut is also old and arthritic and constipated and when she seems to be having a hard time I usually give her extra fluids.  On a normal week she gets 100 ml twice a week, but if she is having a hard time I'll add and extra day of fluids and give her anywhere from 50-100 ml.

I hope your holiday weekend is quiet!

I hope Elvis feels better and keeps doing the kind of good eating he did today.
I know just what you mean about holidays, weekends, and any time our favorite vet is closed.
