Does anyone use this on a daily basis? Or just when needed? I've read so many contradictions on this. One of my vets says to continue daily, the other says use it for a few days, and then discontinue for a few days because they build up a tolerance to it. I've read the CRF site information, like Tanya's site. I see no need to administer it if my senior cats are eating well. Am I missing something here? Does it need to build up in the cat's system for it to work? It seems to work within an hour or so for Elvis and Davey.

Justme, personally, I just don't care for my cat's reaction on cypro, but I have used it numerous times until I was given a better stimulant. In my experience, I only used it a few days and if the kitty started eating well enough on their own, I would discontinue until I saw a decline in their appetite again, then resume using it. I've had kitties that I had to use it on and off for over the course of months due to other health issues. I don't know if this helps any.

Just when needed, JustMe, and as seldom as possible. I use 1/4 of a pill on one cat just about 10 pounds [who is also very reactive to everything, more so than normal] only if all else fails. Then wait to see results, and only give again if, knock wood, the cat does not begin eating on their own, which so far hasn't happened. My vet has said that tolerance becomes a problem; so use sparingly. Personally, I do not care for the effects of Cypro on cat behavior and try to minimize it to only rather than risk lipidosis development with waning appetites. If nothing homemade works and nothing canned backup for 24 hours, will use it at half a beginning dose. Works here, too, within an hour. Why do we get contradictory advice out of vets on this one, use daily, use only as needed? That I don't know.

I don't like the restlessness Elvis exhibits on this medication either. It seems I get the same results by mixing some Fancy Feast Turkey & Giblets in his food (but without the restlessness). He gets 1/2 tablet in the morning. I tried 1/4 tablet, and it didn't work for him. We need for Elvis to gain weight, so I think that is why vet recommends to stay on it.
What other appetite stimulant have you used tesla?

Has anybody tried catnip as an appetite stimulant? I may look into that and whether it can be added to food. Came across this link Spartycats had posted on another thread and I noted that they list antihistamines as a possible cause of constipation. Cyproheptadine is an antihistamine. (table 1) http://www.fabcats.org/owners/digestive/constipation.html
