Jake got a hand made, just for him, matching water bowl and food dish a few weeks ago.  It was a present for his second birthday, and more importantly it was because I wanted safe, lead free things for him and was delighted to find them made in the USA.  Spaniels have long ears, and bowls w/ "normal" shapes mean that spaniels dip their ears while drinking.  Then if like Jake, they jump in your lap w/ those same wet ears!  It also causes hair that is supposed to be straight to curl, which isn't the biggest issue for me but if they stay wet you begin to wonder if they won't actually begin to grow stuff.  The set I got for Jake should work well for any smaller dog or cat for that matter.  They come in more than one size, too, and you can always contact Cindy to see what would be right for you.  Take a look at these made in a beautiful blue that was just what I wanted

Jake loves them.  We like them because the water bowl doesn't tip or flip over, his ears stay dry when he drinks and at mealtime, too, when there's home cooked food in that food dish.  Most important of all, there's no lead.  No lead in the clay.  No lead in the glaze.  This is what I mean when I say his ears are so long they'll dip in most bowls big enough to hold water he needs:

Take a look at Cindy Koehring's Spaniel Bowls.  It's an extremely well done website, so check out the photos and info in the links.

Those are beautiful bowls, carolo!  Lucky Jake!

Wish she made them for big dogs.

Absolutely beautiful pottery!  Jake is lucky!

My pups are eating out of stainless steel cake pans now and drinking from a Pyrex casserole dish.  (I hadn't baked a layer cake in years, so thought my babes would appreciate them.)

The bowls are gorgeous and I know a lot of skill goes into making them.  (And strength to work with clay on a wheel!)  That design idea is brilliant.  I love the snoods, also.  A real pleasure to browse that web site.

(And Jake is captivating, as always.  Thanks for sharing!)

purringfur thx for reminder of glass bowls. I do use my corelle bowls if I have not washed up her stainless ones and need one in a hurry.

carolo,

Thank You for posting,  the bowls are  look great, Jake is beautiful Smiley

I emailed asking couple questions RC has always eaten his food so fast we ended up using an old cookie sheet from my mom (stainless) for food otherwise RC is like a vacuum, before you know it is gone. On Cindy's site  she has a bowl with raised middle, so I emailed couple questions about that.  That particular one may be to small but will see if there are any suggestions.

Thanks for such nice comments on Jake.  As for the bowls, they are so pretty at times I'm tempted to put them in the center of the dining room table.  (Jake wouldn't mind eating there, anyway)  I want a mug to go w/ Jake's bowls and have made that suggestion to Cindy.  She already had been playing w/ the idea.  Looking at my collection of mugs, most of them say "Made in China" and if I won't use anything w/ that stamp for Jake, maybe I should care just as much about my own.  I do, really.  Have developed a new habit, which I'm sure my friends find a bit strange.  I look at the bottom of any mug I'm served my tea out of.  Perhaps that's a bit rude, and I don't turn it down, so that should count for something.  As long as I don't go around w/ lead test kit in my purse, I think I can get away w/ checking where something is made, don't you?

Received a quick response from Cindy she is working on a bowl for another lady where she is having three raised pieces in center of bowl, same problem as RC  (eating to fast) will get back with her next week to find out more.
Carolo I think the mug idea is great,  I have done the same thing checking cups and dishes   Smiley

Just a warning, everyone, don't click on a link when you see a post like this unless you have every version of spyware out there.  In fact, JustMe, you should just delete this post altogether.  The domain name doesn't even have a registered owner....

carolo:

Thanks for that info.  I'm going to contact her.

I have a raised feeder for Hannah......like rc, she's a real gobbler so that's problem one.  Second problem is the new bowls will need a lip so they can sit in the feeder like the stainless bowls that came with the feeder.  Sadly they are MIC & I've been out looking for bowls to replace these & the only ones I can find are made in India......don't feel like I'm doing much better there.

I need to see if she can make two matching bowls (food bowl with raised center) with a lip so they will sit in the feeder.  I'm just sick that she's eating out of these bowls but have been unable to find anything else.  She isn't a huge dog but she's tall enough that I prefer she eat out of a raised feeder (eating off the floor is supposedly not good for their digestion).

I'll keep looking in the event she can't make a bowl like I need......but I sure would like to find something made in the USA. Cheesy

Here's an update on the topic of water bowls and food dishes and the ones Jake got last November.  He loves 'em, and so do we.  I called this shot "Drinks Before Dinner."  Notice how the water bowl keeps his ears dry!

The finish on Jake's bowls is standing up well, being washed both by hand and in the dishwasher.  Cindy Koehring makes various size bowls and even one for those raised feeders and "gobbler bowls."

(modified due to photo not displaying.  I think flickr must be "getting a massage" as they call it, because Medium size would not display but Large will)

That's a perfect pic for an ad for those bowls!  Now you need to elevate the bowl so his ears don't lay on the ground.  Campaign for clean ears for Jake!
