I am looking for stainless steel bowls that are Made in America. Does anyone know of any?
Or if not, is there a brand, not made in America, that is good?

I don't know about the link that MandyCat posted but allow me to tell you about my days & days of searching for SS bowls made in America. I called or emailed just about every place that had SS bowls.......India or China. I gave up & went ceramic........also made in China so you have to be careful of scratching the paint or chips as the paint more than likely contains lead. I have heard a lot of complaints about dogs having acne or other problems from using SS bowls but when they switched them to ceramic, it cleared up. I stopped using SS because I couldn't find any made in the USA. They do scratch easily & I'm afraid they contain lead.......probably lots of it. If anyone contacts this place & they are manufactured here, please post. I'm sure a lot of us would love to find SS bowls that are not MIC.  |

What is wrong with plain old see thru glass bowls if you can't find made in america stainless steel? There are all kinds of sizes out there. Can use one for water and other for food. I use those to cook vegetables in, store food in frig in, etc. There is also corelle that has bowls that come separately now from the whole 4 pc set. I checked the company site for allied and it states they have stainless pet bowls. Has a phone number you can call for more information.

Biggest problem I have is the raised feeder: one was made specifically for a certain size SS bowl (which is when I went on a search for any made in the USA & never did find any).........so I bought a second feeder w/a smaller bowl (ceramic) that was on sale. This bowl size is a little more common but I still need a bowl with a lip that will fit in the feeder properly. If you go into any pet store & turn the bowls over, they are all MIC, end of story. I also called a zillion that I found on the internet that make SS bowls. Some are made in India but that's about it.
There are places where you can have pet bowls made (carolo had some beautiful bowls made & posted a link) but they are way above what I can afford at this point in time. Also found some ceramic bowls for pets made here but they are also brutally expensive.

Not sure if you have anything like this in your cities, but we have a store where you can buy the pottery and decorate (paint) the ceramics yourself. The store then fires them using lead-free glaze. It's a really nice way to personalize your pet's bowl.

JanC I also have a raised feeder that my boss made in his workshop for my former lil girl. The corelle salad/cereal size bowl fits just at the lip of the spot for the bowl. Any bowl bigger or smaller just falls thru. I have a couple that were made in india but now wonder if I need a geiger counter to check them with so stopped using SS til, like you, can find 100% made in america ones.

I also have a raised feeders for my kitties. Same as JJ I use cereal bowls and the lip fits nicely to hold the bowl into place. I am lucky enough to have some dishes from an older set that was made in Japan. I kept some of my Mom's older china plates (odds and ends left over from when I was a kid..eons ago) and also use those for their food. If I am looking for a specific size bowl/plate I check the various second hand stores for older china pieces. You can measure the size you need and take a small tape measure when you go bargain hunting.

Not SS, but definitely not MIC...both clay and glaze USA, Jake's bowls made USA. A raised feeder might be a good thing, however. Here's a shot "Bottoms UP!"  You can see the water bowl sits on the little bone feet, so no sweating:  Except for some very old SS mixing bowls and cookware, etc., we no longer use SS for anything. What we have is from so long ago it was actually made in USA. Very heavy grade. No lead. |

Up until a few years ago, all the SS bowls were US. Then within a few months time, I noticed they quickly got replaced by all made in India. I pass on those and find other things to use, like made in US pyrex, but then my place is definitely not a fashion haven.

I have 2 SS bowls that were made by a company called Top Paw and were made in the Phillipines. I have had these bowls for at least 10 years and am still using them. They are very solid, no finish worn off and no rusting, though they do have some surface scratching. The Top Paw company is still in existence and makes other pet items, but no longer sell the bowls.

I went to ceramic bowls and plates because of the difficulty of finding quality SS.
For about 5 years now, I've been using Fiesta Ware made in West Virginia at the Homer Laughlin pottery factory. Many of the bowls and even plates can be used for feeding pets. (The berry bowls make great cat dishes.) The glazes are lead-free, lots of colors to select from and they are made here in the US. (This Fiesta Ware is not to be confused with the old stuff that is sometimes found at antique shops.)
Another pottery factory is Hartstone in Zanesville Ohio. I've ordered mugs from them as gifts and heard lots of positive feedback. They too have plates and bowls among other items, but since I already have the Homer Laughlin dishes I haven't purchased any of the Hartstone for our pets.
I think the prices are competative in that you get a very good quality piece that is durable, has a lead-free glaze, is dishwasher-safe, and is made in the US. Since I have done a lot of pottery related to artwork, I know that glazes and even clay bodies can potentially be a big problem when it comes to using them to eat off of or drink from. These two companies make their pottery with that in mind. I'm sure there are other companies producing similiar high quality products here in the the US, but Laughlin and Hartstone are the two I have experience with as far as using their products or knowing personally someone who does...
I also agree with someone else that posted earlier that Pyrex glass plates are good too. I've used the clear glass pie plates for years as a feeder for the pets too. The ceramic items I have from Homer Laughlin are just kind of pretty and fun to use, so that's just a personal choice, the clear glass pyrex works good too.
