Read this then check your dogs toys.  The pictures and video will break your heart for this dog's pain.  I had considered purchasing on of these but hadn't done so yet.  No problem now as I won't have one in my house.  cd

That is horrible! Thanks for posting this warning.  I've had those balls for my dogs in the past.  Don't believe there are still any in the house.  I remember my dogs breaking them in half and the bell coming out.  We have German Shephards.   I can see how a dog could get its tongue stuck if the ball cracked during hard chewing, but the ones we had had small holes. Horrible.

Thanks, cd, for the warning. It also came out in the PetsitUSA blog this morning:

Dog loses tongue due to dog toy

Posted: 20 Aug 2008 09:12 PM CDT

Another blogger is warning dog owners about a particular type of dog ball that caused her dog, Chai, to lose his tongue. The ball, made by Four Paws, has a hole in it which caused a vacuum effect, pulling Chai’s tongue into the ball. Chai was hospitalized, and although they had hoped to save his tongue, it had to be amputated.

Chai’s owner says they contacted Four Paws but they’re not willing to do anything about it. So, they’re asking people to boycott the company. See the entire story on Chai for more information about the whole ordeal, and to learn about the boycott. Some of the photos are hard to look at though, and if you’re like me, the videos will bring tears to your eyes.

If you ate today, thank a farmer, hopefully a small, local farmer.

Just to let you know. Four Paws has notified stores (at least mine) today
to pull these toys from the shelves.

Nine individual products are being recalled by the company.  Descriptions & UPC's are in the link:
