While shopping the other day I decided to pick up a new treat for Jessie. I saw these sweet potato and chicken treats, which contained only sweet potatoes and freeze-dried chicken. They appeared to be made in Wood Ridge, NJ.

When I pulled them out to give Jessie one of them, and re-read the bag, it turns out they were made in China.  :oSo into the trash they went!

Just wanted to give others a heads-up.

I'll be having a talk with Shop-Rite about this upon my next visit, and will email this distributor as well.

Hmm. I sent them an email on 6/16 and still have no reply. Quite the customer service company.

Here's what I sent them:
Last week I purchased these treats for my dog, thinking they were a healthy and locally sourced treat for my dog. However, upon closer inspection of the bag after I returned home, I realized that these treats were actually made in China, and promptly threw them out.

I will discuss the decision to carry your products with my local supermarket manager on my next visit to their store.

After last year's fatal issues with pet food ingredients sourced from China, you should be aware that many customers will no longer purchase, nor feed, any China-sourced 'edibles' to their pets. You clearly want to go after the 'premium' market, judging from your packaging and pricing. Your target market is the market most likely to eschew any products sourced from China.

I'm informing as many pet owners as I can that your products are from China, in the hopes of preventing anyone from making the mistake that I did in purchasing what appeared to be a healthy treat but is actually produced in China.

Please consider how you source these treats. A Sweet Potato and Chicken treat is a great idea, if the ingredients come from a reliable, verifiable source. However, I can not in good conscience buy a treat or food that is sourced from China. I think that you will find my sentiment to be common amongst well-educated pet owners--the ones most likely to purchase premium and super-premium products. I'd gladly pay slightly more for food (which I do) and treats whose sources are known and safe.

Still no reply from imspets. Their email is info@imspets.com, in case anyone else wanted to contact them.

tgooch

It does look like the strips may have been a problem. Where are they made, and by who.

db

They were made in China and the brand name is "Cadet"  The actual company name is IMS Trading Corp.  Their website is www.imspet.com.

ugh, they sell on amazon and also do private label.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html/103-3987014-9032626?Uencoding=UTF8&me=A3EQRWTDGDCBH5

and some of their treats are things like pork puffs and pork hide. if they are processing all this stuff in the same plant, they could be cross contaminating who knows what type of scary stuff.

so sorry to hear about maggie  Sad
