What is your experience with this brand?  Thanks

My dog eats the Venison and rice in SMALL amounts  I have not had any issues but he seems to be having a flare out on his allergies he is NOT allergic to rice, venison or any of the other things on the bag

I had tryed adding a few pieces of this to the dogs homemade & they all got constipated. Just a heads up,they are adding rpc to it now. It wasn't in the bags my neighbor had with exp before 6/08,but its in the 2 newer bags we both got.I stopped using it.

I noticed the RPC too when I recently reconsidered buying it.  Decided against it when I saw that.  I don't know why they would put that in instead of just rice, cost maybe?

SandyBeach, maybe your dog is reacting to this highly processed rice protein concentrate, vs whole rice which is more natural.  And who knows where they get it.

((Leslie, Petslave))) THANK YOU!!! This had to be it...I have been banging my head into the wall he had een doing really well for a long time now..Nothing changed with his food or so  I thought till you brought this up..We check the bags each time we buy for any new ingredient because he is allergic to soooooo many things...Hubby looks at the bags and didn't remember when we tossed all the cat foods with RPC due to the *other issue*...BUT YES, PROTEIN is what allergies are based on ..I had my husband look on this bag after I read this and yep it was there RICE PROTEIN CONCENTRATE...was added  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked
I think before hubby just saw rice and kept reading at the store. We do not give him a lot of kibble but I do for the vitamins as even the made in the USA ones DO source the c and b now...Well I will be changing foods..Its a shame they added the RPC because to me ..IMHO that means they use less meat for protein and more RPC ...I WANTED  AND NEED ONE protein and ONE carb source .....this makes me mad  Angry
BLESS YOU FOR CATCHING THIS FOR ME now my dog can move on and heal and I won't have to work so hard at trying to find what his newest trigger was

you know, SandyBeach--I never thought of it that way. It is another form of protein isn't it.  Not a meat protein, but obviously must be much processed from the original rice to turn it into a protein concentrate.

I hope that solves the problem & you can find another food for your dog.  My two big dogs have a lot of food allergies & it is not fun for either them or me when they start reacting to something, so I know what you're going through!

Exactly Petslave ...it's like a little lightbulb went on over my head when I read rPc  .....I have a medical background (human) and thus connected the dots ..protein...Even when they were boosting the protein  content of foods with non-food items...it never hit me to add in the allergy connection...all I thought was run its poisen ..Many people do not realize that even latex has protein and THAT is what people are really allergic too...This was such a brillant string of posts in here and saved me a few grey hairs ..OK a few more  Cheesy Grin
