Carly has just started her second bag of the High Prairie and is
doing great.  Her coat is getting softer and shinier and no spewing from
either end.   Grin   And she likes it!  She has never been a real
vigorous eater, but she cleans her bowl right away now.

Hello all
I started my 12 y/o Vizsla on Taste of the Wild dog food about 4-6 weeks ago. Last week she developed SEVERE bloody diarrhea and it was determined by the Vet via stool, blood and urine samples that it was not a parasite or infectious disease. Once she stopped the food she was better. I am wondering if anyone else has had a problem with this food. Could it have been tainted in some way? My dog has never had allergies or diarrhea like this before and she does not have a sensitive gut. The vet bills to figure this out were 700.00 so the cost was substantial. Any info would be appreciated. I have written to the company and to the store that sold us the food.

Hello and welcome!

There was a Taste of the Wild "callback" on some varieties of their food back in the summer of 2009:

We have some people who were using their TOTW for cats and have found it's not on the shelves more than in stock.  When searching for the cat food, I noticed about the same thing with their dog foods.

This is from Diamond, and they haven't been very co-operative about notifiying consumers about issues with their food through proper channels.

The link here is for a recall of Diamond Premium Edge cat food with imbalances in their vitamin and mineral premixes-the recall for this was formally reported to the public by FDA, not by Diamond:

There are a lot of Diamond food threads here for the reading.  Wink

Welcome rosie dog ! I hope your dog is ok. Good luck getting any answers from Diamond though. Its a good idea to search many pet websites for experiences people have had with any food before trying it . Also the consumer affairs website for complaints. If you click on the subject heading here in brands by experience,it will alphabetize them. Also the homemade food threads may be helpful.

Hello all
Thank you all for your concern about Rosie. She is fine and is doing well on her Gastro formula dog food. I did hear back from a vet at Diamond pet food and she said the food was fine with no recalls. It was probably too high in fat and protein for Rosie. I will try to get a refund on the bags that I have and stay away from that food in the future. The 700.00 vet bills was an expensive leson to be learned about switching food. Angry

Rosiedog, not saying the food isnt fine and there were no recalls but at the same time, thats a pretty standard response seen from some pet food companies. But Im glad your dog is doing better now.

Very glad Rosie is ok !  I agree with Sandi though, while it may be true its a stock answer. You may want to save at least 2 cups & keep a record of all codes & dates in case of a future problem with Rosie's health.

Good to hear that Rosie is alright. Agree with leslie that you should retain 2 cups in case its ever needed in the future, not saying the food is not good but stock answers are so popular with they reply.
