I'm so sorry to read of your dear puppy's loss. I mistakenly thought that after last year's tragedies manufacturers would clean up their act, but that was naive thinking.

Last March, my golden retriever mix became very ill after having some chicken jerky treats. Fortunately, being larger, he recovered. Recently, my other GR mix was diagnosed with IBD. Her vet said she could have chicken jerky treats as part of her chicken, barley special diet. Pet Smart assured me that Smokehouse was safe. I also went to the Smokehouse website where they said it was safe and it was the consumer's fault if the animal became ill. On that assurance I went ahead and gave both dogs very small bits of Smokehouse chicken jerky. After two days my male again showed symptoms of stomach distress and I discontinued immediately.

I guess I'll have to look for chicken jerky recipes to add to my home cooking.

Barbara,

Again, so sorry for your loss.  I forgot to ask, are you having the treats tested?

Barbara - {{{hugs}}}

I am late seeing this thread, but I want you to know how very sorry I am that Lacy was victimized by yet another poisonous product from China... Cry Cry Cry this is just so tragic and so unnecessary - if only these pet food companies and suppliers will do the right thing.

 I also want to thank you fr taking the time to post a warning about that product here in Itchmo.  I know many pet parents will be very grateful for the information.

Hi this is Barbara, Sweet little Lacie's mother.  Thank you all for your comforting comments.  We loved Lacie so much, and miss her every single day.  I flew to Atlanta Georgia from our home in South Orange County, Calif. on Jan. 14th to pick up our new cavalier puppy from our same breeder.  We named her Mercy because God showed us his Mercy throughout our very painful situation and when Lacie couldn't fight her disease any longer he took her to heaven to be with him.  Mercy is so adorable, she looks a lot like our sweet Lacie.  Misty loves her and they are already best of friends.  Little Mercy's parents are Lacie's father and Misty's mother.  So Misty and Mercy are half sisters.  I am working very hard at trying to get a class action suit opened up to take these chicken jerky treats permanently off the shelves.  It saddens me so that Petsmart refuses to take them off the shelves regardless of how many dogs have died and gotten sick.  Sad Sad Sad

I am happy to hear that you have a new puppy!  Congratulations!  I hope Misty continues to do well.  Good luck with the class action suit.  These murders of innocent dogs and cats have got to be stopped.

Barbara- Good luck with Mercy & the suit. The only good thing that has happened from all this mess with the pf co's is that we now know better than to listen to their hype. Hopefully their new safer diets will make a huge difference for all of our remaining fur kids as well as new ones.

Happy to hear that Mercy has joined your family, Barbara.  I am sure that Misty will be happy to have a playmate.   Smiley
