NW Arkansas

I've included dry Canidae Chicken and Rice and Lamb and Rice in my dog's food rotation for about 2 years now. She's done very well on it. No problems, and I don't recall ever seeing anything untoward in the kibbles.

I also buy Canidae treat, and she loves them and has had no problems with them.

New York - Have been feeding canidae ALS DRY for two Greyhounds and Platinum DRY for senior Rottie girl. They are doing really well on it but a case cans of L&R seemed to be bad. It smelled different and the dogs developed Diarreah. So its back to strict dy food with occasional cooked chicken.

Adopted our Lab in April, previous owners were feeding Brand X Large Breed Dog food ... in light of all the pet food recalls (and that I hate Brand X, just a personal opinion), I switched him immediately to Canidae lamb and rice ... bad bad bad.  Ended up with bloody diarrhea, and in the emergency vet for three days.  They could find nothing wrong with him, they blamed the food (food was never tested).  Now, it could have been a combination of things: new home, nerves, new food, etc., although he seemed to adjust to new home just fine, way happier here ... but he has been doing well since on California Natural Chicken and Rice. I think it might just be too "rich" for some dogs, mine being one of them.  Maybe it's just not good for Labs?Huh?  Who knows, just a bad experience for both of us.  Nothing visually wrong with the food.

Oh, sorry, we're in Michigan.

Arizona: Ok, now I AM confused! Had dog on Canidae and he didn't seem to be too happy about the taste and went to leaving his bowl full of food. So, I cut back a little on the food and he did eat every other time.I felt I was denying him something he liked, so am trying Brand X for a different taste. Just rec'd it on Fri. so am still mixing the two to slowly intro the new food. NEVER would have connected the grass eating until it was posted here. I HAVE noticed he IS eating more grass in the past week or so. Never connected the Canidae with the grass eating. I never really watched for it until lately.Since he hasn't eaten enough of the Brand X I don't think that is connected to the grass thing but will keep an eye on it. Thanks!

Ohio here.

My dogs - a shep/dobe mix, a lab/pit mix, and two Newfs (well...only one newf now, just lost the older one to cancer  Sad )
Switched to Canidae ALS dry back in April from Brand X Lamb and Rice.  The shep/dobe mix was a bit of a picky eater with it at first, but eats it fine now.  All of them look great and have normal stools.  No problems with gas or anything like that.

I feel a lot more confident feeding Canidae then I did the Brand X, especially after XXXX bought them out and changed the formula to include more soybean oil and less lamb for the protein source.

From Ohio.

Put my dog on canidae platinum (chicken, lamb, fish) after the recall started, but he doesn't seem to care for it.  Noticed gas at times, and like others have stated here, eating grass.  I can only associate this to the food, so I am in the process of switching him over to BrandX  Hopefully more agreeable.

Location: NorthEast Texas

Dog: Shiba Inu - female

Food: Canidae Chicken & Rice

Experience:  See Below.............

Feeding Canidae Chicken & Rice as 1 part of a 3 part Food rotation with 2 other Brands X........no problems.......dog is doing very well.......coat is great.....had fed Canidae Platinum before to help with weight control & dog loved that also but needed a food with a bit more protein & fat as coat was good but had "dandruff" like flakes when eating the Platinum.  She is 4 years old & has eaten some type of Canidae (dry) food since she was a 4 month old puppy.  We found out that foods with a large proportion of lamb gives her lots of gas, so we cannot feed the Canidae Lamb & Rice & were very happy when Canidae came out with the Chicken & Rice formulation.

South Georgia- Platinum DRY for seniors is my two dogs primary food for the last couple of years. They have both been doing good on it, except for the poodle chewing her feet off and on. (especially about 20 min. after mixing canned canidae into the dry) Have stopped feeding them the canned Canidae period, due to that reason. It would literally drive her nuts shortly after eating it, every time.
We now mix grain free foods with it and go half and half with the two dry brands mixed together. She does much better like this.

in Portland, OR here.  I have 3 mini dachsies on Canidae ALS. Shortly after starting the current bag one of the pups had a rash develop on her tummy, we never put it together that it could be the food.  Within a week all 3 pups started to act "off"  No real understanding of what the problem was just that I could tell by behavior they didn't feel right, upset tummies are not uncommon around here, they are all a bit sensitive and eat things like toy stuffing  Undecided so I just let them be and watched. I read a post elsewhere from someone feeding Platnium that was having all her dogs vomit so I began to look at the food as the cause for the off behavior.  By the next morning everyone here was throwing up as well  Sad  finish breakfast and within the hour it came back up. Needless to say I went out and got different food for them and they've been getting that mixed with rice for the past 2 days and everyone is back to their normal self.

I called Canidae yesterday and got a surprisingly helpful customer service rep who explained the lengths they go to to ensure a good, safe product and the rest of their usual propaganda.  As I wasn't really listening to her justifying it being a safe food  Roll Eyes I was thinking about the food its self and it occured to me that there was a lot more grit in this bag than usual. I described what I was talking about to her and she said it was remnants of the sprayed on ingredients; animal fats, vitamins, etc.  After the food is sprayed some of it wears off as the food moves through the facility and their standard practice is to stop a batch and dump the rest when there is too much grit, I believe she called it fines? But with the fact that demand for the food continues to grow its possible someone let a batch go farther than it should have so she was going to make a note of that to send to whomever was in charge of that.  I called my vet after I spoke to her and explained to my vet the deal and he said it was possible that the extra fats, etc was the problem.  After all *I* get an upset stomach when I eat food that is too fatty as well, and told me to keep an eye on them a few more days and he'd make a notes incase I wanted to bring them in.

Canidae is sending out a voucher for a new bag of food, I have fed this for 2 years and never had a problem before, that added with one of my dogs is a 6 month old puppy it makes dinner time easier since they are all eating the same food.  If I ever open a bag with grit like that one again and see grit like that again the Canidae CSR told me to take it back to the store (which I would anyway)

There was this same "grit" issue with Nature's variety kibble recently too (with feline most recently but also with canine Instinct--mine was the end of last year)

Just as a point of interest, I had a bag of Canidae about a year ago that had that white grit all over the kibble......when I called them, I said it looked like somebody had sprinkled salt over it.  I was told it was due to breakage during shipping......didn't buy that one as kibble isn't white.  Brought it back to the store & never bought it again.

Somebody shortly after that found the same white grit in another brand of kibble but I can't remember now what it was.  I do remember when they called the company, they were told to throw it out & to disinfect the container before they put more food in it (where they were storing the kibble).  That sure didn't make me feel too good about what they thought that white grit may be.  I'm not sure right now who the poster was but if they read this, they can tell you what brand it was.

Too bad about my failing memory, huh? Wink
