Well, it is interesting.  I know quite a bit about dog food and especially the grain-free feeds, but my experience is for a dog and I see by your moniker, you would be referring to cat food.  I am feeding it to my whippet puppy currently [we are on a rotation diet] but it is so NEW out there....they refer to a website on the bag at www.beforegrain.com and yet the website is "under construction."  I liked the fact that the protein percentage was lower than most of the higher protein/grain-free feeds and I only, well, TYPICALLY want to feed what has been recommended by the Whole Dog Journal.  This was too new to be rated this year.  So my angst is that I want to know about the percentage of calcium, as I do not like the higher calcium levels in Evo and/or Nature's Variety.  So I just emailed Merrick today about this and googled to see if anyone else was discussing it, and came up with this forum. 

For my cat, I like Castor and Pollux.  They come up highly rated for dogs on the WDJ and my cat loves it.  Works for her.

Canned BG only has one protein source per can.  That's the only ingredient plus water.  100% salmon or 100% beef, etc.

I am feeding this and my dog loves it. She will not eat any other dry food. I have tried them all. I loved that it has the ACAI berry in it. I have been taking this and it has really helped. Look up it has several benifits. She loves this and looks great. THe cans are perfect as I mix in with the dry and some cans can be hard to mix, this is perfect!! Highly recommend!!

Chicken meal in every formula is what keeps the calcium, ash and phosphoris levels down. Other wise they would be to high.

 about 2 1/2 months ago i bought  sample bags of merrick before grain salmon and chicken flavor....my 2 dogs (a 1 1/2 yr old jack russell rescue and a 12 year old dachshund) absolutely LOVED it!!  So, I bought large bags of both flavors.  After about 1 1/2  months, I noticed my doxie wouldn't eat the salmon flavor anymore...my other dog was fine with it but i wound up just feeding them the chicken flavor.  My doxie then started not eating the chicken flavor....but my other dog was fine.....i started adding some meat (cooked) to the doxie's food and notice he would pick out the dog food....basically spit it out....so...i changed his dog food to another brand for dogs with sensitive stomachs.....other symptoms my doxie had...in the last 1-1/2 weeks he's been peeing in his sleep and only in the morning gagging up clear frothy fluid.  other than those symptoms, he's normal....running ...playing..etc....i have started  giving him some alternative therapy (natural herb tinctures)...to help with his peeing issue that just started out of the blue after this whole food fiasco.....if his symptoms aren't improved in the next day or day i will take him to the vet to rule out urinary infections, kidney problems, and diabetes..   meanwhile ...my other dog (the 1 1/2 yr od rescue I've had for 3 months) just started gagging too.....occasionally gagging clear fluid...and i can hear a little phlegm rattling (which he had when i got him)...so i am taking him off the food now too.....generally his constitution is very strong .....with an iron stomach.....but i'm starting to think the food is the culprit....other than these issues the dogs are normal otherwise....

I picked up the B.G. Salmon dry food for my 3 yr. old Cockapoo and he loves it.  I am impressedwith the ingredients.  The retired Veterinarian that runs the petfood store recommended it.  He said that fish is good for their coats especially in the summer. So far so good! When Charlie's happy, I'm happy!
