Couldn't get onto Yahoo!Groups today and found this site -

http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/

You can use it to check a site to see if it's working or if it's down.

Yahoo!Groups is down, and it has the reassuring message "it's not just you", which is nice.

I am a member of a couple of Yahoo groups, and I received an email yesterday from the admin of one, explaining the outage.

Whenever I can't access a site I'm familiar with, I use downforeveryoneorjustme.com, which is similar.

Yahoo is in the midst of changing the format for the Groups. Some people have been put in a test group called "neo".  If you eventually manage to log onto a Group site, if you are in the NEO group, you will find everything very very different and many, many people are totally disgusted with the whole thing.  It has caused chaos in the Groups due to glitches, and things just plain not working.  I didn't go to the site you posted, but the story is much more complicated that than site would indicate.  I will find the URL where you can read more about this considerable problem and post back.

Here is one site where you can read about the problems that this change of format, that no one was told was coming, not even the owners and moderators, has caused.  The Groups are not really "down".  They are just not working for everyone and are working inconsistently.  I was able to get onto the Hyper-t Group just fine up until Wednesday evening. Then I suddenly found that I was taken to the NEO site, then I was suddenly changed back to the old format.  Members within Groups are having difficulty communicating and it is a real mess as you will read on this site.

Catbird, you are a Hyper-t Group member.  If you can get onto the site, there is a discussion there about its impact on this particular group.

Ha!  It looks like the new format was not met with open arms and joy, was it?

No, it's hideous and impractical.  I do hope that they'll sort it out soon...

It must be even more ugly than the forced change in the email format at yahoo. The new email format only works some of the time and most hate it. Why can't the powers that be at yahoo just leave things alone???

Well, all I got was a message that my Yahoo account (where I have a paid-for Flickr Pro membership and everything) has been de-activated! Really, it hasn't been that long since I signed in to Yahoo services; I use the email services for certain things, besides using Flickr regularly.  I added some pictures to Flickr only a week or two ago, so how can I have been "inactive"?

Yahoo sux. I have always hated the format of the groups, so hard to follow things, and now I hate it even more.

Yes, Yahoo sux big time! Yahoo bought out geocities web sites and then killed the whole community just so everyone (they hoped) would become paying customers. Most did NOT. They all migrated to other free webhosts.

catbird,
TRY communicating (and, yes, that is emphasis on TRY because it is not always so easy), with Yahoo about your Flickr account and mail account.  I did read that some accounts were deactivated in error amidst all the confusion with the new format.  Since your Flickr is something you pay for, you should be able to get it restored, I would think.  You are also on the Hyper-t Group, so that should also count for something!   Roll Eyes  I don't like Yahoo very much either, but I have put up with the strange format there and have gotten used to it.  However, the new one is even worse!   Roll Eyes   Tongue

Ugh....yahoo sucks now. I don't like the changes they have made.  Been with them a looong time...even going back to when it was Prodigy;  I don't like change!

I still can't get into my groups or my Flickr account.  Angry But yet, I'm still getting some updates from the hyperT group sent to my other (non-yahoo) email, and was able to get an email message that the hyperT group sent to all registered members.

After MUCH shenanigans with Yahoo, including resetting my password using a different recovery email address (even though I had the right password to begin with), I was finally able to get back into my paid Flickr account! During the period when I couldn't access it, I could upload photos from my computer directly to the account via iPhoto, so I knew it still existed, but then I wasn't able to log in to get my photo links!  Finally, I think Yahoo switched something, and I was able to access with a password reset. And presto, there is all the old email (including horrendous spam) that they told me had been deleted earlier due to account inactivity. Oy!

I am thinking of moving to Photobucket...
