Who Made Your Notebook?

Not the company whose name is on it.  Why? “…competition for orders is also expected to further lower notebook makers’ gross margins in 2011 from 4% in 2010.”  After the OEM/ODM 4% profit, “manufacturers” like Dell make 5% and HP earns 9%.

My personal best experience in apparently Chinese made computers: HP
My worst: Toshiba

If Taiwan ever goes bye-bye, so does computer production apparently, everyone but Flextronics being headquartered there. I had
no clue. Wow.

oh... 3cat, my 2005 Toshiba Satellite laptop is still working good - wonder if Toshiba has since gone down the drain?  I was thinking that if ever I needed to replace this 'ol faithful I was going to get another Toshiba...  guess I need to research well whenever the time comes which I hope will not happen anytime soon

Only Toshiba I ever owned, Cato, and it went down the drain in the first year. Cracked the case in trying to fix it and wouldn't replace
it. Plus laptop blew again within months with a faulty hard drive again. So that was 1998 or so and $1600 or so. I wouldn't buy another personally.
