There are two scams in the news that I hadn't heard about.  One is an email that is a fake funeral notice without the person's name and when you click on the link for more info, you get malware.

The other one is via cellphones.  The caller lets it ring just long enough that you get the "Missed Call" message.  If you call it back, you get charged, usually $20!  So unless you recognize the number, don't call it.

There's also a new one around here.  They call and either say they've kidnapped one of your relatives and want money or a relative was in an accident and the ER wants money.  Hard to believe people buy this but I guess when you're in a state of panic, you're not thinking clearly.  There are so many rotten people out there trying to make a buck.   Angry

Another one I just saw on the news yesterday is a fake e-mail that tell you that you need to appear in Court.  Open the link in it that is supposed to give the details, and you have downloaded malware.  Reading e-mails these days is like walking through a mine field!   Tongue

I wish I had so little to do that I had time to think all of these scams up ! Maybe if these people had normal , everyday lives with responsibilities they wouldn't have time either .

I've received the fake funeral notice twice now Angry  I'm so glad that I had heard about the scam.  Mine said they were from Clearwater and Largo Funeral Home, which is a real company.  How unfortunate for them, I can only imagine the havoc this creates when you're a legitimate business and your name is used maliciously.

I've also received the "one ring" on the cell phone.

Apparently there are miscreants taking advantage of peoples' fascination with the disappearance of the Malaysian aircraft.........and operating on Facebook:  http://thehackernews.com/2014/03/beware-of-new-facebook-malware-claims.html

Feel free to re-post this in new thread/wherever if appropriate.

Another scam to be aware of.  This was just on the news tonight, but I am posting the link so you can read about it.  It is an IRS e-mail scam.  Since this is tax season, lots of people have been fooled by this.
