Sadly (knowing the industry), I think the line may blur.
This litter is soybean meal and potato starch

Lots of "great" new stuff here:

I think this is my favorite:

"GoodBye Odor for Cats((R))

Marshall introduces an innovative new product for cats that virtually
eliminates pet odor -- GoodBye Odor for Cats. GoodBye Odor is completely
different than other odor removers. Instead of masking existing odors, GoodBye
Odor gets at the root of the cause, neutralizing odors from the inside out so
smells stop before they even occur. This means litterpan waste, urine and
other offensive body odors are a thing of the past! The patented formula is
made with safe, natural amino acids that attack odor-causing urea. It's
completely safe and easy to use. Just 3 pumps a day in your cat's food or
water and you can say "Good Bye to Odor!" Cat owners have noticed a positive
change in as little as three days of continuous use. www.marshallpet.com"

Oh good, now our cats can dig around in genetically modifided Roundup ready, BT loaded soybeans and lick if off their paws.  How nice.  Some of those other products are also rather scary sounding in that second writeup too.  But what is that last product?  It neutralizes urea in the cat's body?  Yikes, how can that be safe to change the body's chemistry?

I think I'll pass on most of those "innovations"!

No thanks to any and all of them, particularly the can of compressed air to "hiss" at my dogs.  I already have a 7-pound, one-eyed cat who can "make a correction" (dog training term  Tongue) for free and quite effectively I might add.   Tongue   Been known to issue a good pfssssssttt and spit myself.  Cheesy

Oh my.   Tongue  Another entry into the competitive "Litter Arena".   Roll Eyes

Alright let me be a thorn in the side of these folks and share the Marketing Guru's perspective. There are always two main questions.

1. How the hell do we sell this to the public?

(What it is, is not our concern Research and Development (R+D) already has all these bases covered.)

2. How the hell do we make the public believe in this product?

Okay let's start out with . .  We Believe!!!!!! this product is the most advanced . . . .  ~!!!! A bright future!! Rapidly approaching!!!

Goodbye Odor
Ingredients:
Deionized Water, Aspartic Acid, Threonine, Serine, Glutamic Acid, Glycine, Alanine, Valine, Methionine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Tyrosine, Phenylamine, Histidine, Lysine, Arginine, Cysteine, Proline, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate, and Potassium Sorbate.

Well, lets see those ingredients:

1. Deionized water = water filtered and then ions removed by reverse osmosis&ion exchange, result is water which has high electrical resistance (~18 MOhm) and it is highly pure. However, leave it alone in air for a while and it is no longer DI water since it will get ions from the environment. It should not be stored in metal containers though since it is somewhat corrosive. Deionization process does no necessarily remove microorganisms, especially viruses since they are smaller and less likely to be trapped by filtration, and for that DI water units with UV light should be used. For this purpose, I see no advantage over distilled water.

2. Various amino acids - not sure why & in what proportion. Giving this would be in a way similar to feeding those prescription foods with hydrolized proteins, I guess.

3. Xanthan gum - thickener to adjust texture.

4.Sodium Benzoate, and Potassium Sorbate - preservatives.

Yeah. No thanks:

"Cats have a significantly lower tolerance against benzoic acid and its salts than rats and mice.[5] Sodium benzoate is, however, allowed as an animal food additive at up to 0.1%, according to AFFCO's official publication.[6]"

Wikipedia search for benzoate

Same is referenced in NRC (max tolerated reported dose 200 mg/kg bodyweight/day).

Agreed.  Ewwwwwwwww.

Although I disagree on the Pet Corrector - the can of compressed air.  Works GREAT for garbage or counter surfing dogs and cats.  You just spray it in the air, not at the pet - the sound is enough to startle them away from whatever behaviour they're doing you disagree with.  Less harsh than a shake can (empty can with pennies) great for pets who are a little more sensitive.
