The little fuzzy tinsel-like glitterballs are my cats' favorite toys, hands down.  They bat them around, they carry them in their mouths, their lives are not complete without their glitterballs.

With all the discussion of lead and heavy metals in pet toys, I have started thinking/worrying about the glitterballs.  It seems to me that these would be prime candidates for this kind of contamination, since they are sparkly to begin with.  In my area they are most often sold in loose bins, like 3 for a dollar, even in high-end pet stores, no labels so I don't know where they are sourced.  I can just guess.

Am I over-reacting?
Does anyone know if the lead test kits in hardware stores would work on glitterballs?
Does anyone have a source for made-in-the-USA non-lead glitterballs?

I've got a glitter ball somewhere.  I think I'll use up one of my testers.
