Because it is mentioned on sites that organ meats are great for cats due to the taurine content, it makes a great side meal/treat! I got 1.5 pounds for 1.99, so I have quite a bit for my cat to eat. It's very cost effective, and healthy to boot! My kitten just can't get enough.  Grin

LOL!!! Yah... my cats get cooked chicken gizzards as treats too.  Glad you made the discovery!  There are soups (for humans) that use chicken gizzards for flavoring.

I use them raw, something about cooking it lessens the nutrients. My cat is lucky that I love him so much to handle nasty organs, and cut them up for him, lol! They look so alien and GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSS.  Wink

I used to give my cats cooked gizzards years ago, and they liked them.  But I quit because of a little problem:  cat stashed gizzard somewhere for later, cat took it out in the middle of the night, hubby got up in the night, stepped on gizzard...

No more gizzards since.

Grin Grin Grin  You could have pointed out to hubby that at least the squeeshy thing he stepped on was not a dead mouse!

Zen:  that's great that your kitty will eat the gizzards raw. And yes!  gizzards are rich in taurine. I feed raw too, but I often lightly cook the chicken livers and gizzards to bring out the flavor so their food won't taste too bland compared to commercial cat food.  My cats get enough taurine (I soooo hope) from raw hearts and raw dark meats (chicken, turkey, game hen, beef - never feed pork) plus their taurine supplement.  Isn't it great that these organ meats (hearts, gizzards, livers, kidney, brain, tripe, etc) are soooo cheap?  I get a large tub of chicken livers for $1.70; a pack of chicken hearts for $2.00 and a pack of gizzards for the same... goes a loooong loooong way.   Since my big recipe calls for only 200 grams liver per 2 kilos meat, I found I had to cook some of the organ meats to make them usable as occassioanl treats or flavor-enhancers.  Leads me to wonder why some people think that feeding their pets REAL food would be costly.  Then again, the story might be different if one were feeding dogs.

It starts to get expensive when you use hubby's salsa maker (blender) to grind the stuff up.

I tried to save the cost of buying a grinder, but got BUSTED when hubby needed his blender and found it in the sink full of (he thought) disgusting stuff.

Oh well.  You can't please everyone.  At least the kitties loved the food. Grin

This might be a little off-topic, but when I lived in Kenya, I would specifically ask for a small hunk of beef lung at the butchery. It was just about the cheapest thing you could buy, and my cat Paka looooved it. It's quite tough and chewy, and I didn't process it in any way once I got it him, but Paka was entertained for the rest of the day working on it...

I often wish I could just buy a piece of meat or organ and toss it to my cats as their day's meal  Undecided  my cats are too spoilt!
