These are the codes from the bottom of the various cans: ZVNC/1128 2009/08/02 ZVNC/1132 2009/08/02 ZVNC/1133 2009/08/02 The above mentioned cans are creamy and pink and most like what I've been feeding the cats. This is the info off the latest can: Ziwipeak Mkt Ltd. 304 Stone Rd. Wst Suite 128 Guelph Ont Can N1G4W4 Ph 001 519 823 9142 BB 2009-03-06 Mix 14 This food is darker and chunkier and drier looking and I think has more of the fat pieces in it (little yellowish pieces).
I was very impressed with their quick reply. I gather that the original cannery went into what they called "receivership" (bankruptcy, I presume) and they switched to another cannery, but are back with the first now that someone else has bought it and is established.
ZiwiPeak prefers the chunkier product even though my cats don't. The rep I talked to was surprised that the new formula was in the stores. I'm confused as to why the chunkier has a more recent sell by date.
I don't know what else to try. I wasn't pleased with Evanger's. I wouldn't go back to Natural Balance or IVD (I forget their new name). Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info. I do actually have some of those codes along with 1044 and 1125. I will keep a watch on the next order I place and see what happens. I usually put a bit of hot water on the food...especially when taking it out of the fridge. It seems to make the food a little creamier...and I break up any big chunks.
I too tried many varities of food before finally finding this one. Previously my boys were eating Nurto....never ever again!! As that was a "chunky" food...the pates were not accepted at all. I did use Wellness Turkey for a bit and they did seem to like that after much coaxing. For the dry food I use Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken Meal and Rice. They also have canned foods....maybe you can give them a try. I did try them for my boys, but again the pate did not go over well at the time. Eagle Pack is also a very good company and return your calls/emails very quickly too.

Chef G, thanks for the recommendations. Apparently the cans with the long codes (ontario, etc.) were some of the older cans. The way I understood it all is that the original cannery went into receivershop, but someone else has opened it again. In between times, someone else was canning the product. ZiwiPeak prefers the darker, chunkier product. The Ontario address was an agent's address. I was told the new can codes. All I remember is that they will have LV1 in the code. I have the info in an email. Thanks.
I also add warm water b/c I don't like to use the microwave for heating the food.

Brooklyn NY
I have a bag of the Venison treats and Phil wont touch it,not even when I put it on his regular food... oh well.
I'm trying to get him off fish wet food, and wanted to try to venison or veal of this. Is it a chunky or Pate style wet food? for some reason he just cant handle pate. Probably pick some up this weekend, will post on how it goes!

The canned food is more pate than chunky....although there does tend to be large chunks in it. I had the same problem getting my boys to eat pate...but they really love this food. The great thing is that you don't have to feed as much due to "no fillers". It really is what they claim... like raw without the thaw...expect that is is cooked!! So far I am happy to say I have not had one bad can...and both of the boys look awesome!! We use the venison, the boys did not care for the lamb, but would also eat the fish and venison. I will warn you the fish is rather strong smelling. Good luck!!

Wilson has been eating about a small amount (about 1.5 oz a day) as his afternoon snack since May and seems to like it. I haven't ever increased the quantity as it is only available mail order and I haven't yet had a change in date codes to know how he will react. Each time I order I've received the same date lot. This is the lamb I'm feeding:

The last several cases I've gotten of the Ziwipeak venison have been their old formula that the cats like. They're supposed to be changing back to the chunkier this fall, I think.
It's the only canned they eat, twice a day, and so far they continue to like it.

I started feeding the venison to Wilson a few weeks ago. Initially after eating some Nature's Variety Venison he wouldn't touch any venison food at all. I had tried this once and he looked nervous and walked away. But I tried it again and it is now his breakfast every day. He seems to really like it. The cans I've been using are all pate style.

I have been usng this for quite some time for my boys...and they love it. I have not had any problems at all with any of the lots numbers at all. I use a case of this food a month for about last 18 months or so. I highly recommend it.

After seeing that both EVO venison and Nature's Variety Instinct venison are now having supply issues, I ordered some EVO and Ziwipeak venison from Only Natural. I normally purchase the EVO locally but they have been out for a few weeks now. The Ziwipeak I've always ordered from Only Natural. Not sure if this means anything, but I got the last case of Ziwipeak Venison and they are out of lamb. I did not follow up with the Ziwipeak to see if they also are having supply issues. But you may want to check supply out if you use this on a regular basis.

Thanks for the update. I called the store we deal with, and they know of the lamb issue but are not aware of the venison....but they will check and let me know. I just got 2 cases last week and there was not issue.

I had trouble a couple of months ago getting the venison. The petstore was having a problem of getting it from the distributor but the nice lady I talked to at ZiwiPeak (Kathy?) said the distributor had plenty.
Sometimes the store doesn't get it and has to reorder. I don't know why. They try to keep a case or so on hand. I think I am the only one that buys it in quantity and another person buys an occasional can.
The case is marked from a warehouse in Independence MO.

I sent Only Natural an email and they responded that there have been big promotions of Ziwipeak causing the shortage...so they expect it will be resolved soon.
