I saw the little white specks on my Wellness indoor. Not a lot, just a little here and there.
edit: Oh yeah, about liver issues. A friend of mine had a cat die of liver failure and it turned out to be from grooming the Frontline flea medication off of another cat. This is something you have to be really careful of when you use that crap and if you have more than one pet.

I finally got a response back from Wellness, in the form of a letter, concerning the white "chunks" in the Indoor Health kibble. They say that they tested the kibble and chunks in their quality-control labs and found the chunks to be bone (as they already told me they thought it probably was). The letter said that the machines that debone the chicken sometimes don't get all the bone out, so small bone fragments can end up in the kibble. They told me that the bags are perfectly safe to feed, but that I could take them back for a refund if I wanted to. I've also been given about $20 in coupons and I'm waiting for three free bags of Indoor Health (from a different date code - courtesy of Wellness) to come in at the shop where I buy food.

I have to say that I'm impressed by the level of customer service Wellness has provided. At the beginning of all this, the rep I spoke with even gave me her direct line, in case I had other questions.

Thanks for the update Eric...I had not sent mine in yet - travel schedule is killing me!!!! anyway - i would assume mine is the same as what they said of yours so I will not worry with mailing it yet....

I think it is good to just keep a check to be on the safe side.....I know they said it was okay to eat, but some of what I had was about the size of rice and hard....so I'm not to convinced it would be okay...but if you don't see those then you should be fine.

It is not what I normally feed anyway so I'm not so upset :-) I have the replacement bag but I know if I run out of my food there are options for me out there.....I just try not to run out :-)

Lorie- If she needs fluids & Jim can't do them, maybe the vet would board her at a discount rate if you explain the circumstances ?

well nothing like spending 262 dollars last  night to find out your cat is a DIVA and this is a behavioral problem, but in a way I am grateful that she is healthy.  Now i just have to figure out the problem.  Do you think she feels my stress over my mom and can sense i am getting ready to leave her for almost a week?  Or was it because I had the windows open all weekend and the stray cats scents blew in the house?  Or I noticed it started when I purcahsed new baby blankets to put on top of their bed all there accidents were on the new blankets?  Any ideas or suggestion are welcome.  I all ready put Feliway in the mix.

Lorie

PS I created a monster Wednesday eveing when I suspected a UTI I broke out her old RX canned food had 3 cans od Hills X/d left that were still good exp 07/08, and now that is all she wants to eat.  On second can all ready, will not touch the homecooking now.  SIGH.  So once I come back from PA will need to come up with a safe canned food open for suggestions.  Topaz and boycotting homecooking now too but will not touch the RX so she is on a kibble kick  UGH.

I am glad to hear that she is OK!  I have noticed that sometimes my cats will pee on a new blanket or cat bed that I give them--it must have something to do with the smell.  So I have learned to wash them first!

More prayers for peace, calm, and strength coming your way!

I recently switched my kitty (male, 9 yrs old) from a supermarket "indoor mature" dry food to Wellness Indoor Dry.  I'm pleased with the results thus far.  I switched very gradually over a few weeks, as he had issues with food switches in the past.  We're now on the second bag.  He obviously likes the taste, has no digestive issues, and his coat feels a little softer.  I supplement with various canned foods as well.

Anyone having problems with the Wellness complete cat[red bag] ? My neighbor has been using it with no problem, dates 6/08,7/08 & 9/08. Recently got a bag of 11/08 & the cat won't eat it at all. Marsha says it has a strong fishy odor.Wodering if there was an ingredient change between (9/08 & 11/08 bags,or if this bag just went rancid.

I believe so - as that is not what is one the market now.  I believe it was preemptive to their current red bag (they were changing the formula already) - that bag should have been produced around Nov 08.

Current red bag:

Complete Health – Salmon, Salmon Meal & Deboned Turkey Recipe is a well-rounded, everyday diet of meats, grains and fruits with a focus on the nutrition that cats need to stay fit and healthy when they have a moderate activity level and an indoor/outdoor lifestyle.

The previous red bag was not this formulation.

I think the red bag has always been the salmon/turkey formula, at least is has been since fall of last year.  Maybe they put more in more salmon in that lot?

The canned formulas seem to change consistancy between lots, which makes me think that they just vary ingredients depending on what's most available.

Marsha just called & said Mindy is eating this bag with no problem. Its 7/23/08 & is the new formula,so its either too much salmon in the other 1 or its rancid.

Actually, the previous formulas (circa 2007) were revolving around the Super5mix (I wasn't into wellness at the time - can't tell you the bag colors).

Wellness Super5mix
Wellness Feline Chicken Formula
Wellness Feline Salmon Formula
Wellness Healthy Weight Formula

Methinks more Salmon in that last bag.  (Its interesting, because my feed store doesn't carry bags that old).
