I have split off the discussion of the pro's and con's of Wellness into a separate thread:

http://itchmoforums.com/pet-food-questions-and-researching-foodsingredients/wellness-cat-food-question-t9638.0.html

Please remember that the food experience section is only for specific comments from people who are actually using the food.  The goal is to keep a record of experiences in a way that makes the information easily organized and accessible for people to search through.  Questions and other discussions about a brand should go in the "Pet Food Questions" or "Your Problems With Pet Food" sections.

Thanks,

Current case of Wellness 5.5oz cans of Turkey & Salmon
BB  28 Apr 12

One cat will only take a few licks and then try to bury it. She's kind of finicky anyway, but
the others are eating it, but with much less enthusiasm than before.

It does seem to have much larger pieces of carrot and potato in it and
one of the cats won't eat the carrots, just licks around them and leaves them in the bowl.
I even try to mash them up, but there's always a few pieces left I don't get.

Over the past few months they either are tiring of Wellness or something has changed with the food.
I did give in and feed some Friskies canned for a short time, but while they all ate it and seemed to like it, there was vomiting nearly everyday. That and the fact that it caused my diabetic cats blood glucose levels to rise too much.

I recently did something I never thought I'd do and bought some FF gluten-free flavors or Turkey & Giblets and Liver & Chicken. I'm trying to coax the finicky one to eat more because she seems to be getting smaller and smaller and barely eats enough to stay alive. I guess anything I can get her to eat is better than letting her starve herself.

Hubby says feeding these cats is becoming too complicated and I have to agree with that, but what can you do?

Mine have started liking the turkey flavor again, but I'm only buying the 3 oz cans as they seem the most consistent. Hopefully, their coats don't start getting greasy like they did with the fish flavors. Paws up to the:

Interesting, snowshoes.  That's the exact date and flavor that my cats think is great, and only a little different in time stamp, too.  Yours are less enthusiastic, mine are more.  Cats!

Catbird,  This is really none of my business, since I am not feeding wellness, however, it may be relevant with regards to the "little diffent in time stamp."  You wrote: >>only a little different in time stamp, too.<<

According to Purina, when I just spoke to them the other day, after the first number which denotes the month, you have the julian calander day, and I was told that every day there is a totally new batch of meat or fish, so if I have a batch they won't eat, all I have to do is make sure the next batch I buy, although it may be the same month, if the DAY stamp differs, then it would be a totally different batch of mean or fish and therefore they might like it.
Of course, at this time, I have stopped getting FF totally, but this same info may apply to Wellness lots, and the little difference you see in the time stamp, may be a whole new day and new batch of meat and explain the difference in their acceptance.

So that makes me wonder that refusal by cats to eat the food or not be enthusiastic about it, doesn't necessarily mean something wrong with the food, just that different cats have different tastes of what they deem as "good". Have you noticed larger pieces of carrot and potato in yours?

20 Apr 12 Turkey was a lot that my cat ate for several months.... and liked it, however, it's virtually gone  in the Massachusetts area where I live.  He is eating the 3oz Turkey June 10 12 dates.   I'd like to start him on the Chicken for a little variety.

BW, the Wellness codes are different from the Purina codes in many ways, and it's my understanding that the stamps are times, not Julian dates.  They do not read as Julian dates.

Snowshoes, I wonder if it is just individual cat tastes, and not that something is wrong with the food. What I think is wrong is that there is now so much variation in the food!  It wasn't like this before.  I have noticed more prominent pieces of carrot, but thought that was because I'd switched from 3 oz cans to 5.5 oz cans.  My cats used to accept only 3 oz, but are now pretty much refusing 3 oz and eating 5.5 oz.  The 3 oz are all made in Canada, so I was guessing it had something to do with ingredients used at the plant where it was made.

Bo continues to do well on the 3oz 20 Apr 12 Turkey - same as two others are using. Humm....I'll have to check in the stores and see if there is any more around here.  In the 3 oz I hadn't noticed any change with carrots or potato.

We've also been using the 3 oz cans and the 4 siblings have been on again off again as always.  It doesn't seem to be any relation to anything -- just moods.   Roll Eyes

Our newest addition to the family, little Sunday, who has been with us now for just two weeks, really liked Wellness canned when she was plucked off the streets and famished LOL.   Undecided    Now it's getting harder to get her to eat more than a few licks.  Will continue to try though...
